means they either didn’t find what they came for or they did but it was

something personal which the assistant couldn’t have known about.”

I grabbed the file with our first man’s infos on it and opened it.

“Harold Crawford, twenty nine, grew up in foster care in Ravenbridge,

lived in a small trailer park whenever he was out of jail— he was convicted

and incarcerated for car theft, housebreaking and sexual assault, served

several years in prison.”

“He was a known sex offender, there were several more complaints

against him even after he came out of prison, but somehow that motherfucker

didn’t go back to jail for it.”

“How the fuck does the Ravenbridge police work? Letting a man like that

wander their streets.” I was disgusted just looking at his file. Knowing Sofia

had came face to face with that fucker made my skin crawl.

“Yup.” Adam nodded pensively. “List of suspect is short and mainly

composed of men we knew he fucked with in the past and who have been

known accomplices of his; Ben Karrock, Jay Titcher and Hal Malcoms.” He

threw the file against the desk and laid back against his chair. “Jay moved to

Maryland two years ago, we’re still working to get in touch with him, Hal

has been in jail since last year for assault on a police officer and all that’s

left is Ben, which we haven’t been able to locate yet but the boys at IT are

working hard.”

“It just doesn’t make sense for it to be one of them.” I couldn’t take my

eyes off of Harold’s file. “These guys are clowns, they’re petty criminals at
