She stared at me for so long, eyes wavering and lips trembling. It’s like

she wanted to tell me something but wouldn’t dare.

Then her gaze fell to my lips and her head moved up, just the slightest bit.

I tensed, knowing what she meant to do, her mouth was only a breath away

from mine.

It took all I had to put my hands on her shoulders and pushed her away as

softly as I could. I heard her breath catch in her throat. As soft as my

movements were, I knew they still hurt her feelings. My own heart screamed

at me for putting distance between us, but I couldn’t hear it over my brain

maintaining this was best for both of us. And Valentina.

“I- I’m sorry.” She took another step back, looking down at her bare feet,

while pursing her lips.

“It’s okay, I— you know we can’t do that.” I wanted nothing more than to

take her in my arms.

“I don’t know what came over me, I didn’t mean to— I know you don’t

want me like that.”

I could’ve denied it, reassured her and told her that she represented

everything I ever desired and more, but where would that get us? More

frustrated because we both wanted each other but couldn’t do anything about

it? Giving up on resisting and crossing a line once again?

We couldn’t have that.

So I said nothing, and let her believe that I wasn’t into her even though I

wanted her so much it burned.

She gulped at my silence, nodding to herself and ready to turn around and

get back to bed. For some reason, I wasn’t ready to part ways yet so I blurted

the first thing I could think of.
