sleeve white shirt but I could see them peeking on his neck and hands.

“Hello, detective Brooks?” He looked unsure, like he was gauging

whether or not he could trust me just from the way I looked.

I frowned, wondering what this kid was doing in my office and who even

sent him.

“Yeah, and you are?”

“My name is Aiden Walker, sir. I’m from Ravenbridge and I came to

report a disappearance.” He stood a little straighter, trying to show how

serious he was, but his words only confused me.

“I’m sorry kid, you’re in Lakestone here. You’ll have to report this to the

Ravenbridge police.”

“I tried. They’re not taking me seriously.” He entered and closed the door

to my office behind him before I even allowed him. I frowned, not sure if I

liked his gut or wanted to send him back on his ass for it.

“My neighbor, Oscar, was supposed to come home from his football

practice at four, but it’s six and he’s not home or answering his phone.” I

sighed and rubbed my face.

I got why he was worried, I really did. If this had happened with

Valentina, I would be worried too. But there was nothing pointing towards

the fact that this could be a kidnapping or something serious. Two hours were

nothing to a kid, he probably went out with some friends and forgot to check

his phone.

“We have to wait forty-eight hours before opening a kidnapping case, it’s

protocol.”

“Not when three kids have already been missing in the same fucking

neighborhood.” Now that got my attention. I straightened up in my seat and
