Better eat something before we get going. I think we’re in for a long day.”
I didn’t even wait for him to finish and went straight for the bag. Salted
caramel and chocolate muffins were my favorite and I had no idea how he
knew that but I didn’t really care at the moment, too busy enjoying the
delicious food.
“Do you have news on Valentina?” I sat on the bed while stuffing my face,
one leg folded under my butt, the other still touching the floor.
“Yeah, Nurdeen said she woke up at four this morning and was in front of
the door waiting for us as soon as she was dressed.” A sad smile graced his
lips and my heart seized in my chest.
It was six in the morning right now, I thought I was being dramatic when I
told him I would be at their door at seven o’clock sharp but clearly my sister
outdid me in that area.
Shit I missed her so much already.
“Just lemme gulp this down to wake me up, get dressed and we can go.” I
shifted, making myself more comfortable so I could eat and sip my coffee at
the same time. ”I can’t wait to see her, she’s never slept over at anyone’s
house before, but I’m glad she found a friend there and that she seemed to
like the family—“

I kept talking, knowing he was probably just gonna tell me to slow down
and not eat as I spoke.
“We also need to get more stuff from the house but I don’t want Valentina
to go back there. There are just too many bad memories associated with that
house, so maybe you could stay here with her while I go? I’ll take an officer
with me of course, maybe Adam or Selena—“
