“She was totally eavesdropping.” Valentina rolled her eyes, wiping at the

tears lingering on her cheeks. Well, it was a good thing her makeup was only

halfway done when she came in here because she would totally need to redo

it.

As she looked back at me with a small smile, she didn’t look like she

minded though.

SOFIA

Our backyard was beautifully decorated, thanks to the team of friends and

family that had gathered here to help us earlier. It was everything I dreamed

of when I was fifteen and everything my little rose wanted.

Flowers adorned the tables, fake candles were lit and strewn a bit

everywhere in the yard and lights hung on the trees and against the house,

making it seem like a million fireflies were illuminating us. The tables were

draped in blue, white and gold, the scent of delicious food invading our

nostrils as Georgianna and Adam's wife, Eva, worked the buffet.

Their son and his fiancé were also here. Him and Adam had worked out

their differences a couple years ago, though it hadn't been easy.

Ray lounged lazily on a chair as kids ran around and tried to caress her.

Against my own will, I'd gotten attached to that damn cat. Valentina loved

her, she even made a little tiara that matched her own for the animal.

All evening, I had watched with a smile on my face as my sister had fun

with her girlfriends, as she danced with them and laughed her heart out to

whatever funny thing her best friend Nikki was saying. That girl was a

firecracker and she and Valentina were like two sides of one coin, totally

different, but essential to each other. They met on her first day in

Hollowside's school and had been inseparable ever since.
