“Okay. We’ll leave Valentina to you for the night.” Both me and
Valentina’s head snapped towards him, betrayal sipping through my pores.
How fucking could he. “Just leave us ten minutes to gather her belongings
and say goodbye in the privacy of their room. Then I’ll accompany you to
make sure she’s in good hands. ”
My heart was beating erratically against my ribcage, I could feel silent,
angry tears running down my cheeks at the injustice this was. How could they
pretend they wanted what was best for her while separating her from her only
living relative.
Surely, they could see how close we were. They had proof I would do
anything to protect her, or was my taking a life not enough for them?
My whole body was shaking in anger and fear. It was a strange
combination, really.
Harvon and Kensley agreed, and Maddox then put a hand on the small of
my back as he led me to our room. Justin was still waiting out front and he
gave us a sorry look, which I ignored.
Once inside, Maddox locked the door behind us while I took a seat on the
bed, hugging Valentina even closer to my chest. She squeezed me just as hard
and continued sobbing.
“Please don’t let them take me, Dada. The monsters will come for me if
you’re not here.” she cried and I joined her.
I just couldn’t keep my tears from falling anymore. The last twenty four
hours have been hell for us, but somehow it didn’t even come close to what I
was feeling right now.
Right now, it felt like I was being amputated a limb or like someone was
carving my heart right out of my chest.
Like I was not whole anymore.
