I nodded, not giving a shit about those sheets, I’d buy her a thousand more
if she wanted.
“So that was her period? Coming in early?” Sofia’s voice was hoarse
from crying so much.
My sister nodded.
“But then… Why the fever?”
Andrea shrugged, “Some women get fevers during their cycles, it’s
nothing bad, as long as it doesn’t happen every time. It might just mean
Valentina will have really bad cramps and it could even be a very early sign
of endometriosis, but there’s no way to tell for now. We’ll have to keep an
eye on her. Actually, Valentina’s period might stay for a few days and then
disappear for years before she gets them again. It’s not uncommon for some
young girls to bleed for the first time when they’re really young and then get
their real periods at age twelve or older.”
Something was bothering her though, I could tell from the way her eyes
kept on staring at Sofia, and I don’t think it was only because of our close
proximity.
“Maddox, Valentina actually asked if you could come in and see her.
Sofia, may I talk to you for a second?”
I felt Sofia tense against me, but she nodded nonetheless. Looking at me
with anguished eyes, she got up on wobbly feet and sat back down on the bed
next to me. Not caring anymore what my sister saw or not, I pressed a light
kiss to her lips before getting up and joining Valentina’s room, leaving them
alone.
