“Looks like life has been looking up for you, huh?” I said suddenly,

interrupting Adam. “New job, higher rank, better pay, your own office.

Seems like Jack Raymond’s death was a blessing in disguise after all.”

His face shuttered and he tensed up, “I would give all of this back in a

heartbeat if it meant having him and Marcella back and healthy.”

“Right. I believe that.”

“Look, I don’t know what your problem is with me, exactly but—“ He

stopped suddenly, and cleared his throat. “But—” he tried continuing his

point but started coughing instead.

For several seconds, he did just that. Coughed and couldn’t seem to stop,

it just wouldn’t let go of him. That made me frown, my gut was screaming

that something was wrong..

And something was fucking wrong, alright. Adam looked at me warily as

Conan just kept on choking on air.

I got up, went behind his desk and started tapping his back lightly.

Adam too burst into action too and grabbed the bottle of water, opening it

up and putting it against his mouth. Conan tried to drink but it was like his

throat had closed up and all the water dripped down on his desk, drenching

the papers laying on top of it.

“Fuck! Call 911!” I screamed and Adam ran out of the room to get help,

holding his phone in hand. The bottle fell on the desk, forgotten as it soaked

the surface, slowly emptying itself.

Conan started suffocating then, his coughing turning into wheezing, his

arms flying around in panic. His eyes were nearly bulging out of their sockets

and I had no idea what to do. I figured if something was blocking his

windpipe, I could get it out by using the Heimlich method, but as soon as I

started helping him up, something happened. Something bad.
