Absolutely not.” Was exactly the answer I knew I’d get from Sofia when I
decided to talk to her earlier today.
Three days after Valentina scared the shit out of us, everything seemed to
have gone back to normal.
Well, with one exception.
Callie came knocking on our door yesterday morning, with a huge smile
on her face, brandishing a piece of paper, but my brain was too tired to
process what it was.
Sofia didn’t have that problem though, because she instantly knew what it
was, rushing to Callie and grabbing the paper from her.
The official decision regarding me becoming a foster parent was in, and it
was amazing news. Because the judge and DA both agreed to grant me
custody of Valentina. I remember Sofia leaping into my arms in joy, Valentina
clapping her hands together in victory, hugging our legs. I remember feeling
so damn happy I thought my heart would explode out of my chest.
It was official. I had legal custody of that incredible little girl, and with
her came the most amazing woman I’d ever met.
I was in an amazing place.
That’s why I was scared to speak to Sofia. I knew what I had to tell her
would just be ground for a fight so I procrastinated for as long as I could.
