I was already weak from reminiscing so many good memories and seeing

her dance with Maddox. Plus, their little chat in our bedroom earlier

definitely already had me crying so when she said those words, I couldn’t

keep my tears from falling anymore.

“You…” her voice broke slightly with emotions. “You’ve been so many

things for me, Dalia. You were a mother, a father, a sister, a friend, a

protector… you gave me everything you never got and I don’t think I’ve ever

even thanked you for it.”

She sniffled, burying her head against my neck, just like she used to do

when she was younger. She was slightly taller than me now. What a beautiful

young woman she was becoming.

“Hell, look at that.” She pushed away from me slightly and gestured to the

decor surrounding us with her head. “You gave me the quince you never had,

you made sure all my dreams came true. You gave me a family who loves me

and whom I love with all my heart. I’ll never thank you enough.”

“You never have to thank me, Rosa.” I cupped her cheek. “I did what I

had to do. You’re my favorite person in the whole world. And not just

because you’re my sister.” I chuckled through a sob and she joined me,

recognizing the words she had told me five years ago. “I’d go to hell and

back for you, mami. Never forget that.”

She smiled, and put her hands on my round stomach. Soon, she would

understand what it felt like to be the older sister. To love your sibling so

much you would do anything for them.

“We’re different flowers from the same garden, baby.”
