My eyes didn’t leave her as she spoke. I could tell how much it pained

her, of course, but there was something else there. Anger. Sofia was livid,

and not even for herself, she was angry that Valentina had been subjected to

it. Every time she mentioned the little girl, and how much that night impacted

her, she got this glint in her eyes, furious, enraged. The love she felt for her

sister remained unequaled. She would kill for her. She had killed for her.

“I was at the top of the stairs when I saw my mom run through the foyer,

from the living room into the kitchen. Her pajamas were ripped and bloody

and she looked frightened. I’ll never forget her face that night.” She looked

down at her hands, letting her hair cover her face.

Something to know about Sofia is that she was one prideful girl. She’d

never let anyone see her cry or act weak. Even last night, before her

breakdown in the hotel bathroom, she held herself with pride and dignity. I

knew her sister played a great part in why she was trying to keep up that

façade.

“I was so scared I just stopped moving. My legs wouldn’t work, I was

already imagining the worse. Then I saw my dad.” She whimpered. “He was

crawling, trying to get to the kitchen too, but he could barely move. They s-

stabbed him. Several times, he was sliding in his own blood, trying to get to

the kitchen.” Her hands came to her throat and she squeezed, “That’s when I

heard mom scream. I don’t know what the other guy was doing to her, but dad

could see from where he was and he started yelling at them to stop, he was

getting so agitated, and moving his arms wildly. It was making him even

weaker, he couldn’t even crawl anymore.

Then someone I couldn’t see grabbed his leg and pulled him back into the

living room. Mom was still screaming, dad was too weak to fight anymore

and he just left a trail of blood behind. That’s when adrenaline kicked in I

guess. I ran down the stairs as quietly as I could.” My jaw clenched and she

noticed, her eyes boring into mine.

“I know it was stupid, but I had to do it. My mom was screaming at the

top of her lungs, I don’t know what that man was doing to her. I-“ she

hiccuped, tears clogging her throat.

“Take your time, sweetheart.” Adam told her patiently.
