to hear the most perfect man I had ever met, the one that not only met all of

my standards but exceeded them too, say that, rendered me speechless.

“I love how you love your sister. I love how you’re always there for her

and would sacrifice anything for her in a heartbeat.” I gulped and fought the

tears threatening to break free from my eyes. He had no idea how true that

statement was. “I love the way you smell like flowers and sugar. I love the

way your hair is so soft and shiny all the time.”

“I use argan oil.” Was the only dumb thing I could think of, too short for

words to think of anything else.

Maddox chuckled and caressed my hair. “Well, it works wonders. I love

your smile and the sound of your laugh. I love how you glare at me when I

forget to take my shoes off even though we don’t have carpeted floors.” A

watery smile made its way away on my lips as he looked at me tenderly. “I

love how you never let me be in charge of seasoning the food when we cook

together.”

“You only use salt, it’s not seasoning, just a condiment you should put in

every meal.” He laughed and I joined him as a couple of rogue tears escaped

my eyes.

“I even love how you and Valentina talk shit about me when you think I

don’t understand.” I felt my eyes widening.

“You understand us?”

“Well not really but I did download an app to try and learn Spanish. And I

looked up what gran bobo meant. Big dummy, seriously?” He looked

unimpressed but the side of his mouth was pulled up in an amused smile.

“It’s affectionate!” I defended. Valentina often called him that and I guess

it stuck. It really was affectionate when we used it on Maddox. He chuckled

and kissed my forehead before pulling away and looking in my eyes.
