I had tried to reassure her, rub her back like I knew she liked, but she

started crying any time I went near her. I knew both Raymond sisters were

extremely bashful, which was probably why Valentina wouldn’t let me close.

She was embarrassed. I tried telling her it was natural, that it was something

every young girl went through at some point, but that only made her cry some

more.

I was overwhelmed.

Which is why my shoulders literally slumped in relief as soon as my

sister entered my apartment, in a rush.

I was in the living room, sitting down trying to gain my breathing back.

One of my hands was grasping the ends of my hair as I forced myself to

inhale and exhale slowly.

“Where is she?” I was so lost in thoughts that I didn’t even notice Andrea

using her key to get in. She didn’t bother locking the door behind her, just

rushed to me with a big plastic bag full of, I guessed, period supplies.

“S-she’s in her bedroom, she refuses to leave her bed, I tried to get her to

take a shower or at least change but she starts sobbing as soon as I get one

foot inside the door.” I never felt as powerless as I did at that moment. I had

gotten so close to that little girl, she came to mean so much to me in a

relatively short time, and seeing her like that made me physically ill.

“Where’s Sofia?”

“She passed out. Fuck, she saw all that blood and she looked so scared, I

think it made her think of the night her parents were killed. The sight of blood

must be a trigger she was unaware of.” I let my head fall back between my

shoulders, “Shit, this is all so fucked up.”

“Go see that Sofia is okay, I’ll check Valentina and make sure everything

is alright. I’m pretty sure it’s just her period coming in early, it’s rare but

there are some instances that make it possible to get your period at nine.” I
