Furious didn’t even begin to describe how I was feeling as I stepped out
of my car.
Adam exited next and tried calling my name but I was already ten feet
ahead of him, marching in the direction of the playground.
A small crowd composed of two police officers, several onlookers and a
horde of women in hideous tracksuits gathered on one side of it, while a
police car was parked on the other. The women were all trying to talk at the
same time and the uniformed officers standing in front of them looked
completely in over their heads. They didn’t know where to look, who to
listen to. That made me even more fucking angry.
One of the women turned her head towards me and did a double take
before gasping.
“Detective! Finally someone competent around here!” She all but ran to
me, or should I say power-walked? She looked like a goose and it honestly
was ridiculous.
“What the fuck is happening here and where the hell are the Raymond
sisters?” I side-stepped her, not sparing her a glance and looked at Remy, one
of the two officers present. My tone was much more brusque than I had
intended and he straightened, eyes wide.
