I groaned internally. That bitch knew we were understaffed and that rush

hour would come any minute, yet she still decided to take her tenth break of

the day. I couldn’t stand her.

Tossing the sponge I’d been cleaning the counter with into the sink, I

turned around and faced the two young customers that had just entered. Both

girls looked no older than fifteen and were polar opposites style-wise. One

looked like a walking, talking rainbow. All of her clothes were a different

color, red shirt, purple pants, yellow sneakers. Everything was a different

shade. Her lips glistened with lipgloss and she had some cute (blue) artistic

liner going on. She even had pink streaks in her black hair but I highly

suspected she was wearing a wig.

The other one looked like she was allergic to color, though. She had black

hair too but she was dressed in total black. It wasn’t a goth or alternative

style exactly, she looked fancy and classy but… colorless. Her skin was a

shade darker than mine and she wore a black and gold bindi on her forehead,

which contrasted with the otherwise casual outfit she was wearing. Her long

black hair was pulled into a high and tight ponytail. Contrary to her friend,

she wasn’t wearing makeup, which somehow made her look even younger.

They were both pretty short and had really slight frames. The girl in black

pulled an eyebrow up, looking me up and down, making me realize I’d been

staring.

I cleared my throat and apologized before making my way to them and

stopping behind my counter.

“Welcome to The Coffee Bean, what can I get you girls?” I beamed,

grabbing my pen and looking expectantly at them.

The blond answered first “Hey, I’ll take a medium caramel iced coffee

with oat milk and a dash of cinnamon, please.” she smiled and I grabbed a

cup, writing her order, before looking up.

“Okay, I’ll just need your name, please.”
