“Do you promise? Do you promise this is the last push before we finally

get a normal life?”

Her little voice resonated in the empty bathroom. I nodded against her

neck, biting my lip and doing my best to keep the tears from falling.

“Yes, Rosita. I promise.”

She was magnificent.

MADDOX

Sofia possessed the kind of beauty that made it impossible to look away

and, unfortunately, I was not the only one who seemed to think so.

All eyes were focused on her as she walked down the aisle, her red soles

shoes matching the deep red she painted her lips with. Those were the only

two touches of color to her all black outfit. Her dress was conservative

enough, it had long sleeves and came down to her ankles but clung to her

body in a way that highlighted how fit she was. I could positively say that

was the first time I’d even seen her wear a dress, and what a waste that was

because she was rocking it.

A silk black scarf was wrapped around her head, and her smooth black

hair could be seen from underneath, cascading down her back. She wore

black totally opaque sunglasses and I couldn’t help but think it was because

she didn’t want anyone seeing her tears.

She walked confidently, holding her sister’s hand while people— nearly

the whole town was here, looked in awe. I could hear them whispers, see

them look her up and down, probably judging if her outfit was appropriate or

not.

Appropriate.
