“A kitten!” The giddiness in my sister’s voice made it instantly
impossible for me to be annoyed at Maddox. She’d been talking about kittens
for weeks now, and when Maddox talked to me about adopting one I told him
it was a lot of responsibilities that I wasn’t sure Valentina was ready for yet.
“Oh, my God he’s the cutest thing!” She shrieked again as the little white
bundle of fur slowly stirred, waking up from a nap. When Valentina slowly
took it out of the box, I saw it was wearing a costume. A firefly costume that
looked just like Ray.
“She’s the cutest thing, yes.” Maddox corrected as Valentina brought the
little creature to her chest. “What are you gonna call her?”
“Well, I like Ray. What do you think?”
“I think it’s a cute name for a kitten.” The white cat mewled and rubbed
her head against my sister’s uniform vest, clearly liking her new name.
“So that was the big surprise, huh?” I gave him an unimpressed look and
he smiled sheepishly.
“Well, it was more like a way to bribe her in case she didn't dig the
whole Prince Naveen thing.”
“I dig it!” Valentina exclaimed before getting back to rubbing the cat’s
fur.
