We woke up on the couch, my whole body was sore from the

uncomfortable position I had fallen asleep in, and Sofia was already awake.

Her head was resting on my chest and she looked at me tiredly. There was

some fear in her eyes and I fucking hated that it was there.

I’d seen her in vulnerable states in the past, but never like that. She was

never vulnerable and scared to the point where she looked like she wanted to

flee.

Of course I tried reassuring her, telling her that I would never turn her in

or do anything that might get her separated from her sister. I swore myself to

secrecy and told her she needed to trust me.

I told her I would be back as soon as I could and that she had to stay home

and wait for me. I made her promise not to run away from me and she did,

weakly.

But I was scared her instincts would be too strong and that she’d end up

leaving, anyways.

That was why I found myself speeding on the drive home and ignoring all

speed limits. I parked hastily once I reached the building, not even sure I

locked my car before getting out and sprinting to my apartment.

Once I came to face the front door, my heart was beating fast. I didn’t

know what I would find once I opened it. I just hoped she was still here so

that we could talk, now that the initial shock had worn off.

Walking inside warily, I looked around. Nothing seemed out of place, but

I had a bad feeling.

“Sofia?” I called and after a few seconds passed and no answers were

heard, I strode down the hall and to my room, heart beating so fast I thought it

would jump out of my chest. I called her name again, and just like before, no

response came through.

Pushing open my bedroom’s door, I froze.
