“Maddie!” The woman squealed.

She was wearing a cozy looking pink fur coat, pink killer heels and her

blond hair had a pink bow in it. She was like the live version of Charlotte,

from The Princess and the Frog, Valentina’s favorite Disney movie.

I’d never seen her before, but from the way she hugged Maddox and

seemed so familiar with him, a small part of me instantly disliked her.

“Callie.” Maddox smiled down at her as soon as she pulled away from

him.

Her lipstick stained his cheek— pink, you guessed it, and again, the urge

to wipe his cheek assaulted me out of nowhere. Maybe it was because of

everything that went down lately. Maybe I felt weirdly possessive of him

because I’d just spent the last few days with him and that somehow brought

us closer— or at least I thought it had.

One of his hands remained around her back as she smiled, showing off

her straight white teeth. Her outfit looked fancy, her hair was styled

impeccably, her face was beautiful and fuck even her voice was nice. I

wasn’t close enough to tell but I could swear she smelled like candy cane or

sugar plum or something sweet like that. She radiated feminine energy.

I looked homeless in comparison with my cargo pants and black, longsleeved,

cropped top. My long hair was in a loose braid and I probably had

bags under my eyes from the sleepless nights I’d been accumulating.

Barbie— or Callie as Maddox called her, finally noticed me and turned

around, offering me a smile which, unfortunately, didn't look fake.

“Hi! You must be Sofia?” She offered me her hand, “I’m Calliope, but

you can call me Callie!” I smiled back as best as I could despite the jealousy

remaining in my heart and shook her hand. “I’m so sorry for your loss.” her

smile slipped and she genuinely looked like she was sad for me.
