I am a Master‟s degree student at the School of Nursing, University of the Free State, who is interested in
conducting research in the field of pediatric ARV services in die Free State public health sector. The research
will be conducted under the supervision of an experienced and qualified researcher at the SoN. Permission
for the study was granted by the Free State Department of Health as well as the Ethics Committee of the
Faculty of Health Sciences.
The purpose of the research is to investigate current pediatric ARV-rollout and service delivery in this
province.
Your participation and the information that you provide will enable the researcher to describe the current
situation regarding pediatric ARV services and to make recommendations to the Free State Department of
Health regarding more effective service to HIV-positive children who are in need of ART. This will have a
direct influence on our community at present as recommendations may lead to streamlining of the current
pediatric ARV-programme and services rendered to HIV positive children.
This research is not part of any experiment and no invasive procedures or investigations will be done. To my
knowledge there is no harm or risks to you by partaking in the study. Your participation is voluntary and may
be terminated at any moment without any penalty. You will not be offered any compensation or payment for
your participation.
In order to obtain the needed information an interview will be conducted with you at a time that suits you best
and in a private setting. During the interview a questionnaire will be completed where the questions deal with
current service rendered to HIV-affected children and ARV service delivery to HIV positive children. Your
name or identity is not required in order to complete the questionnaire. The information that you provide is
strictly confidential and will not be used in any way other than the purpose of this research study. Your privacy
will be respected in this regard.
The interview will last about 10 – 15 minutes and will not impose on your daily duties. Your partcipation will
not disrupt patient care and should an emergency arise during the interview that needs your immediate
attention, the interview will be terminated. Provide honest answers and inform me whenever you feel
uncomfortable regarding the scope of the questionnare during the interview.
The study results will be published in an academic journal but your name or input will not be identifiable.
By answering the questions asked you are consenting to participate in the research study.
