mm in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 respectively, with rainfall between April 1 and September
30 being 106 mm, 76 mm, 140 mm and 135 mm, respectively.
Water applications were made weekly from the vegetative growth main stopping, in
mid-July, to the vintage, using a single dose corresponding to 20% of ETo in 2009, 2010
and 2011, and 25% of ETo in 2012. Total amount of irrigation water applied was 100
mm in 2009, 54 mm in 2010, 83 mm in 2011 and 115 mm in 2012.
The experimental determinations were number of bunches per vine, grape yield, bunch
weight and berry weight, as production parameters. As vegetative growth parameters,
number of shoots per plant, weight of pruning wood and shoot weight were determined.
Finally, as parameters of grape quality, soluble solids concentration, pH and total acidity
have been determined for each experimental treatment.
3. RESULTS
3.1. Vegetative development
A. Garnacha. Neither the total number of shoots or the shoot weight nor the weight of
wood pruning showed statistically significant differences, however, there is a tendency
for the underground irrigation to produce a pruning wood weight slightly greater than
the overground irrigation, according to the greater shoot weight, despite of showing a
slightly lower number of shoots.
Table 1. Average data of 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012, for Garnacha Tinta, of number of clusters
per vine (Clusters), grape production in Kg per vine (Prod.), cluster weight in g (Cl. W.), berry
weight in g (Ber. W.), number of shoots per vine (Shoots), pruning wood weight in Kg per vine
(Pr. W.), shoot weight in g (Sh. W.), total soluble solids in ºBrix (TSS), pH and total acidity in
g.L -1 of tartaric acid (T.A.), for Underground (Und.) and Overground (Ov.) irrigation treatments.
