Beyond Illusion is the topic of the 13th
Docudays UA festival. We selected it
because, after the Maidan, the feeling that
humanity is currently struggling through
illusions towards some new civilizational
order is getting ever stronger. The illusion
of the stability in a world order that
was agreed upon by strong democratic
countries is collapsing. The world’s illusion
of Ukraine’s weakness and the inability
of Ukrainians to self-organize has been
dispelled. The illusions about relying on the
international institutions in the UN system,
created to secure the world order without
war and aggression and to protect human
rights, have been dispelled.
Meanwhile, the phenomenon of free spirit
and self-organization of Ukrainians is
calling, inspiring and motivating themselves
and the world to protect each other!
Today, these incomprehensible people are
changing not only themselves, their people,
their country, but also the civilizational
order of modernity.
We are happy that Docudays UA festival is
also involved in this extremely important
process. For 13 years, through the most
truthful documentary films, through
discussions with thinking people, Docudays
UA has been helping hundreds of thousands
of Ukrainians to understand what has ‘gone
wrong’ in the world and how to fix it. The
Traveling Festival brought together 108,000
viewers in 254 cities, towns and villages,
including the Luhansk and Donetsk regions,
as well as Crimea. In 145 Docudays UA film
clubs for media education on human rights,
19,170 viewers watched and discussed the
best contemporary documentaries about
human rights. And today we have launched
another project, See Ukraine: Docudays UA
Travels Around the World, thanks to which,
Ukrainian films were shown in France, and,
by the end of this year, will also have been
shown in Germany, Greece, Spain, and Italy.
We want to show the world that Ukraine
is a European country of freedom, positive
change and talented people, who are
now bravely and devotedly protecting the
highest European values.
The team of Docudays UA is sincerely grateful
to all our international and Ukrainian
institutions, supporters and friends; your
support has given us an opportunity to
create a powerful instrument of struggle for
a new democratic order in Ukraine. We are
also grateful to the audience of Docudays
UA; together, in the conversations about
films, in discussions, we will accumulate
the energy which Ukraine needs to break
through illusions to the new future.
