Мантас Кведаравічюс народився 1976 року в Біржаї (Литва). Він вивчав культурну
антропологію у Вільнюському та Оксфордському університетах. Зараз працює над
докторським дослідженням щодо наслідків болю в Кембриджському університеті.
З 2006 року займається дослідженням тортур та депортацій на Північному Кавказі.
Прем’єра його першого фільму про збройний конфлікт у Чечні відбулася на
Берлінському міжнародному кінофестивалі 2011 року.

Mantas Kvedaravičius was born in 1976 in Biržai, Lithuania. He studied cultural
anthropology at the Vilnius University and the University of Oxford. Now he is making his
PhD on the topic of the effects of pain at the University of Cambridge. Since 2006 he has
been exploring the tortures and deportations in the Northern Caucasus. His first film about
the military conflict in Chechnya was premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival
in 2011.

Чоловік лагодить свою рибацьку сітку та йде на міст. Два трамваї
стикаються один з одним – ніхто не постраждав, а контактний
дріт відновлюється в той же день. Для робітників заводу проводиться
невеликий концерт, де щирий виступ скрипальки змушує
їх плакати. Бомби падають у море, та всім байдуже. Повсякдення
Маріуполя – розташованого на схід від Криму українського міста,
колись заселеного греками – визначене загрозою бомбардувань.
Це візуально сильна пошана кризовому місту, присвячена його
поетам та шевцям.
A man repairs his fishing net and goes out to the bridge. Two trams
run into each other – nobody is hurt and the cables are fixed the
same day. A small concert is given for factory workers and the sincere
performance of a violinist makes them cry. Bombs fall into the sea,
no one notices. Everyday life is defined by bomb threats in Mariupol,
a city in Ukraine, situated east of Crimea and once populated by
Greeks. It is a visually powerful homage to a city in crisis, dedicated
to its poets and shoemakers.
