The BLG Logistics Group is one of the largest employers in
the State of Bremen.

in participation projects. In 1999 for example, BLG joined
forces with the private company Eurokai from Hamburg to
form the joint container subsidiary Eurogate.
In Bremerhaven alone, Eurogate offers 4,920 metres of
quay length with 15 berths for container ships that are
loaded and unloaded every few minutes by 49 cranes.
Eurogate has a European network that operates altogether
eleven container terminals, including the deep-water Jade
Weser Port that was opened in September 2012. Eurogate
handles 13.3 million TEU every year, making it Europe’s
leading independent terminal operator.
In addition to its classical port handling, acquisitions and
participations have opened up additional areas of activity
for BLG, including automotive and contract logistics – two
business units that meanwhile generate just as much
turnover as the container business. BLG is Europe’s leading
automotive handling firm. In 2012, 2.15 million vehicles
were moved for import and export in Bremerhaven alone,
with nearly 7 million worldwide. BLG operates its transport
services with its own train system that has more than
1,300 special wagons, together with seven inland navi -
gation vessels on the Rhine and Danube rivers, as well as
its own fleet of trucks.
Meanwhile it follows its customers to countries such as the
USA, Brazil, South Africa and China, where BLG employees
pack and unpack car parts and supply them directly to the
conveyor belt. The largest customer for contract logistics
(logistics on behalf of a third party) is Tchibo. On behalf of
this company, which offers its customers “a new world
every week” in addition to coffee, BLG takes on the complete
warehousing, order handling and shipment in a
state-of-the-art high-bay warehouse, and meanwhile also
looks after Tchibo’s online orders. Contract logistics also includes
car part logistics, industry logistics, trade and port
logistics together with the new business unit for logistics
in the offshore wind industry.
