Offshore-Windpark in der Nordsee
Offshore wind farm in the North Sea
WAB and the auditing firm PWC. Altogether, 10,000 employees
are already working for the offshore wind industry;
up to 33,000 jobs could be created nationwide by 2021.
The expansion of this industry is also benefiting machine
construction firms in North Rhine-Westphalia, Baden-
Württemberg and Bavaria.
The entire supply chain
Applications have been submitted for 126 wind farms in
the North Sea and Baltic. Up to now, permits have been
issued for 29, including 25 in the North Sea. At present,
eight wind farms are under construction. For all these
wind farms, parts deliveries, maintenance and supplies
have to be organised and arranged from the cost. Up to
20,000 new jobs could be generated in service and maintenance
– a huge chance for the job market and a huge
business, of which Bremerhaven wants to have its share.
Within a radius of 200 nautical miles around Bremerhaven,
up to 290 wind turbines could be built each year and later
provided with supplies and maintenance. If the radius is
extended to 300 nautical miles, this increases the number
of turbines to 470 each year. But the forecast has a snag in
it: other ports on the German North Sea coast such as
Emden, Wilhelmshaven and Cuxhaven are also courting
the offshore industry and expanding their port facilities
accordingly, let alone the competition from other countries
around the North Sea.
But Bremerhaven is still in the lead, at least in Schnorrenberger’s
estimation: “No other location on the coast offers
such a pronounced cluster of offshore wind energy with
producers and suppliers on all levels of the supply chain”.
Numerous companies have settled in the new cluster
around the old fishing port, including turbine manufac -
