Health-related quality of life after arthroscopic partial meniscectomy

Abstract
Fragstellung: For partial meniscectomy, studies reporting data on Health-related Quality of Life (HRQOL) are
rare and have few patients. Previous studies are incongruent with regard to the impact of certain factors (age,
gender, cartilage degeneration etc.) on clinical outcome. This study investigates whether these inconsistently
reported factors influence the HRQOL outcome of partial meniscectomy. Our hypotheses were that the HRQOL of
patients undergoing partial meniscectomy improves post-operatively (Hypothesis 1) and is significantly influenced
by the factors cartilage degeneration (Hypothesis 2), localization of partial meniscectomy (Hypothesis 3), age
(Hypothesis 4) and / or gender (Hypothesis 5).
Methodik: Short Form 36 (SF-36) data on 216 patients were analyzed for pre- to post-operative improvement
and for the influence of the factors age, gender, degree of cartilage degeneration and localization of the partial
meniscectomy. Cartilage degeneration was assessed according to the ICRS scale. Mixed linear models were
applied for univariate and multivariate analyses.
