5.1 Success and challenges of installed infrastructure
Installed infrastructure ranged from computer laboratories, to computer hardware, operating systems
and networks. Computers were connected in star configuration in LAN which was linked to satellite
through VSAT for internet access. The VSATs had been disconnected from the satellite links.
Respondents tended to agree or highly agree that the quality of the installed infrastructure was good
(see Table 2). Respondents lowly rated the quality of the power back-up system and the printing
facilities. This is attributed to frequent power outages, unreliable back-up system and unavailability of
consumable supplier for Lexmark Laser printers in Kenya.

5.2 Success and challenges of information content and communication
The responses could be divided into two categories: those relating to content within the LAN, and
those relating to communication outside the eSchool. Most respondents were of the opinion that the
content quality was good as shown in Table 3. On the other hand, communication effectiveness and
quality were rated poorly (see variables marked with * in table 3).
