to unlearn traditional pedagogies and adopt new pedagogies that will both be student-centred and
make students high achievers.
7. Conclusion
The NEPAD ESchool Pilot in Kenya appears to be succeeding in attaining its major goals of
improving the quality of graduating students by imparting team working and lifelong learning skills,
which should make the students better prepared for the current complex workplace. The study
recognizes that basic infrastructure, training and user support are in place. Teachers, students and
parents are supportive of the eSchool system. Each of the six dimensions is succeeding but a lot of
improvement is required. Infrastructure expansion, sustainability and internet connectivity is important
in facilitating user access of learning resources. Access points are currently limited to computer
laboratories making it difficult for teachers to integrate ICT in every day teaching of subjects. Lack of
internet connection is threatening exchange of resources and ideas between schools and peers.
Further studies should be conducted on effective training methods to impart desired pedagogical skills
to teachers and also investigate the ‘training for use effectiveness’ dimension to make it better
measure training effectiveness.
