is for those who are accursed for ever : here will all those be<br />

gathered together who utter unseemly words with their lips<br />

against God_, and speak hard things <strong>of</strong> His Glory; here will<br />

they be gathered together, and here is the place <strong>of</strong> their pun-<br />

ishment. 3. And in the last days there will be the spectacle<br />

<strong>of</strong> a righteous judgment upon them, in the presence <strong>of</strong> the<br />

righteous continually for ever : here will those who have<br />

found mercy bless the Lord <strong>of</strong> glory, the Eternal King.<br />

4. And in the days <strong>of</strong> judgment over the former, they will<br />

bless Him for the mercy in accordance with which He has<br />

assigned them (their lot)/ 5. At that time I also blessed<br />

the Lord <strong>of</strong> Glory and spake to Him and remembered His<br />

greatness, as was befitting.<br />

XXVIII. 1. <strong>The</strong>n I went towards the east, into the midst<br />

<strong>of</strong> the mountain range <strong>of</strong> the desert, and I saw here nothing<br />

save a plain. 2. Nevertheless it was filled with trees <strong>of</strong><br />

this seed, and water streamed down <strong>from</strong> above over it. 3.<br />

It was manifest that there were many watercourses which<br />

flowed as well towards the north as to the west, and here<br />

also as everywhere water and dew ascended.<br />

XXIX. 1. And I went to another place, away <strong>from</strong> the desert,<br />

drawing nigh to the east <strong>of</strong> the mountain range. 1. And<br />

then I saw the trees <strong>of</strong> judgment, particularly such as give<br />

XXVII. 3. Those who have found mercy. <strong>The</strong> text gives<br />

en>UCPl = ' the merciful '; but the sense requires the meaning given<br />

above. <strong>The</strong> text may be a corruption <strong>of</strong> SF > ' tfr&'} = those who have<br />

found mercy.' <strong>The</strong> Giz. Gk. gives do-fpels, a corruption <strong>of</strong> evo-epels.<br />

2. Utter unseemly words : see v. which separates this plain <strong>from</strong> Jeru-<br />

4 (note). 3. Spectacle : cf. xlviii. salem. According to Ezek. xlvii. 8,<br />

9; lxii. 12. "Who have found mercy: this desert should one day be well<br />

see Crit. Note. Lord <strong>of</strong> glory : see watered and covered with trees.<br />

xxv. 3. Eternal King : see xxv. 3 XXIX. 1. <strong>Enoch</strong> goes still further<br />

(note). East and comes to the region <strong>of</strong> fra-<br />

XXVIII. 1. Din. takes the plain grant trees. 2. Trees <strong>of</strong> judgment,<br />

here referred to to be that <strong>of</strong> the i. e. trees which will be given to the<br />

Jordan, and the mountain range <strong>of</strong> righteous after the judgment: cf. x.<br />

the desert to be the rocky region 19; Is. lx. 6; Ps. lxxii. 10. So
