oppress the elect <strong>of</strong> the children <strong>of</strong> God, lxii. 1 1 . But<br />

the prayer<br />

<strong>of</strong> the righteous ascends, and their blood goes up before the Lord<br />

<strong>of</strong> Spirits crying for vengeance, xlvii. 1 ; and the angels unite<br />

in the prayer <strong>of</strong> the righteous, xlvii. 2. But the oppression <strong>of</strong><br />

the kings and the mighty will not continue for ever : suddenly<br />

the Head <strong>of</strong> Days will appear and with Him the Son <strong>of</strong> Man,<br />

xlvi. 2, 3, 4 ; xlviii. 2, to execute judgment upon all alike—on the<br />

righteous and wicked, on angel and on man. And to this end<br />

there will be a Eesurrection <strong>of</strong> all Israel, li. 1 ; lxi. 5 ; the <strong>book</strong>s<br />

<strong>of</strong> the living will be opened, xlvii. 3 : all judgment will be committed<br />

unto the Son <strong>of</strong> Man, xli. ; 9 lxix. 2 7 ; the Son <strong>of</strong> Man<br />

will possess universal dominion, lxii. 6, and sit on the throne <strong>of</strong><br />

his glory, lxii. 3, 5; lxix. 27, 29, which is likewise God's throne,<br />

xlvii. 3 ; li. 3. He will judge the holy angels, lxi. 8, and the<br />

fallen angels, lv. 4, the righteous upon earth, lxii. 3, and the<br />

sinners, lxii. 2 ; but particularly those who oppress his saints,<br />

the kings and the mighty and those who possess the earth, xlviii.<br />

4-7 ; liii. 3 ; lxii. 3, 11. All are judged according to their deeds,<br />

for their deeds are weighed in the balance, xli. 1. <strong>The</strong> fallen<br />

angels are cast into a fiery furnace, liv. 6; the kings and the<br />

mighty confess their sins, and pray for forgiveness, but in vain,<br />

lxiii ; and are given into the hands <strong>of</strong> the righteous, xxxviii. 5 ;<br />

and their destruction will furnish a spectacle to the righteous as<br />

they burn and vanish for ever out <strong>of</strong> sight, xlviii. 9, 10; lxii. 1 2 ;<br />

to be tortured in Gehenna by the angels <strong>of</strong> punishment, liii. 3-5 ;<br />

liv. 1, 2. <strong>The</strong> remaining sinners and godless will be driven <strong>from</strong><br />

<strong>of</strong>f the face <strong>of</strong> the earth, xxxviii. 3 ; xli. 2 ; xlv. 6. <strong>The</strong> Son <strong>of</strong><br />

Man will slay them with the word <strong>of</strong> his mouth, lxii. 2. Sin and<br />

wrongdoing will be banished <strong>from</strong> the earth, xlix. 2 ; and heaven and<br />

earth will be transformed, xlv. 4, 5 ; and the righteous and elect<br />

will have their mansions therein, xxxix. 6<br />

; xli. 2. And the light<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Lord <strong>of</strong> Spirits will shine upon them, xxxviii. 4 ; xlviii. 9<br />

they will live in the light <strong>of</strong> eternal life, lviii. 3. <strong>The</strong> Elect One<br />

will dwell amongst them, xlv. 4 ; and they will eat and lie down<br />

and rise up with him for ever and ever, lxii. 14. <strong>The</strong>y will be<br />

clad in garments <strong>of</strong> life, lxii. 15, 16; and shine as fiery lights,<br />

xxxix. 7 ; and become angels in heaven, li. 4. And they will<br />

seek after light and find righteousness and peace with the Lord <strong>of</strong><br />

Spirits, lviii. 3, 4 ; and grow in knowledge and righteousness,<br />

lviii. 5.
