succession, and rises <strong>from</strong> and sets in the fifth portal. 1 2.<br />

<strong>The</strong>n the day becomes longer by two parts and amounts<br />

to eleven parts, and the night becomes shorter and amounts<br />

to seven parts. 13. And the sun returns to the east and<br />

enters into the sixth portal, and rises and sets in the sixth<br />

portal one and thirty mornings in succession on account <strong>of</strong> its<br />

sign. 14. And on that day the day becomes longer than<br />

the night, so that it amounts to double the night, i. e. twelve<br />

parts, and the night becomes shorter and amounts to six<br />

parts. 15. And the sun mounts up to make the day<br />

shorter and the night longer, and the sun returns to the east<br />

and enters into the sixth portal, and rises <strong>from</strong> it and sets<br />

thirty mornings. 16. And when thirty mornings have<br />

elapsed, the day decreases by exactly one part, and amounts<br />

to eleven parts, and the night to seven parts. 17. And the<br />

sun goes forth <strong>from</strong> that sixth portal in the west, and goes to<br />

the east and rises^or thirty mornings in the fifth portal, and<br />

sets in the west again in the fifth western portal. 18. On<br />

that day the day decreases by two parts and amounts to ten<br />

parts and the night to eight parts. 19. And the sun rises<br />

<strong>from</strong> that fifth portal and sets in the fifth portal <strong>of</strong> the west,<br />

and rises for one and thirty mornings in the fourth portal<br />

on account <strong>of</strong> its sign and sets in the west. 20. On that<br />

day the day is equalised to the night and becomes <strong>of</strong> equal<br />

length, and the day amounts to nine parts and the night to<br />

nine parts. 31. And the sun rises <strong>from</strong> that portal and<br />

night to eight parts. G adds 'exactly,' Tl*#. II. Fifth<br />

portal. G repeats these words wrongly at beginning <strong>of</strong> next<br />

verse. 13. For B(h£i Afrflfh G reads frflrh. One and<br />

thirty. G reads 'thirty/ 19. Bises in the fourth portal on<br />

account <strong>of</strong> its sign. G M read :<br />

' rises in the fourth portal on<br />

poses, where the longest day is twice our author states it. 13. On ac-<br />

as long as the shortest night, just as count <strong>of</strong> its sign, i. e. that <strong>of</strong> the
