lxxi. 15 whereas Sim. 5 ; Lev. 16 j Jud. 18; Zeb. 3; Napht.<br />

4; Benj. 9 cannot be traced directly to any passage in the<br />

<strong>Ethiopic</strong> <strong>Enoch</strong>. Reub. v and Napht. 3, though <strong>Enoch</strong> is<br />

not directly mentioned, may be referred to En. vi-ix. 2.<br />

From the second century onwards all knowledge <strong>of</strong> the<br />

<strong>book</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Enoch</strong> vanishes <strong>from</strong> Jewish literature with the<br />

exception <strong>of</strong> a few references that are given by Jellinek in<br />

the Zeitsckr. D. M. G., 1853, p. 249.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Influence op <strong>Enoch</strong> on Patristic Literature.<br />

Still adjourning the consideration <strong>of</strong> the New Testament<br />

we find a large body <strong>of</strong> Christian testimonies. <strong>The</strong> Epistle<br />

<strong>of</strong> Barnabas, written not many years after 70 a. d., cites <strong>Enoch</strong><br />
