4. And that black young bull gored the red one and pursued him<br />

over the earth, and thereupon I could no longer see that red<br />

young bull. 5. But that black young bull grew and a heifer<br />

joined him, and I saw that many oxen proceeded <strong>from</strong> him<br />

which resembled and followed him. 6. And that cow, that<br />

first one, went <strong>from</strong> the presence <strong>of</strong> that first bull in order to<br />

seek that red young bull, but found him not, and thereupon<br />

raised a great lamentation and (still) kept seeking him. 7.<br />

And I looked till that first bull came to her and quieted her,<br />

and <strong>from</strong> that hour onward she cried no more. 8. After<br />

that she bore another white bull, and after him she bare many<br />

. Seth<br />

bulls and black cows. 9. And in my sleep I saw that<br />

white bull likewise grow and become a great white bull, and<br />

<strong>from</strong> him proceeded many white oxen which resembled him.<br />

10. And they began to beget many white oxen which re-<br />

sembled them, one following the other (in due succession).<br />

LXXXVI. 1. And again I saw with mine eyes as I slept,<br />

and I saw the heaven above, and behold a star fell <strong>from</strong><br />

heaven, and it arose and ate and pastured amongst those oxen.<br />

2. And after that I saw the large and black oxen, and behold<br />

(DRhl *!&X came forth other young bulls.' 5. But that black.<br />

G omits ' but that.' Followed him. G M read ' followed them.'<br />

6. For fln>7 'thereupon' G reads ^ftlh. 8. Another white<br />

bull. For 'another' G reads Xl&h, 'a pair <strong>of</strong> white oxen': i.e.<br />

and a sister to be his wife.<br />

LXXXVI. 1. Pastured amongst those oxen. 2. And after<br />

colour emblematic <strong>of</strong> his martyrdom. to the ' bulls ' also. 9. Bull.<br />

4. Young bull. So I render ta'wa Rendering <strong>of</strong> s6r : see ver. 3. This<br />

when it=vitulus, as in vv. 4, 5, 6. bull is Seth. <strong>The</strong> descendants <strong>of</strong> Seth<br />

5. A heifer. <strong>The</strong> same word is used are likewise righteous like their pro-<br />

<strong>of</strong> Eve in ver. 3. This heifer is Cain's genitor.<br />
