13. For great is the mercy <strong>of</strong> the Lord <strong>of</strong> Spirits, and He is<br />

long-suffering, and all His work and all the extent <strong>of</strong> His<br />

work He has revealed to the righteous and elect in the name<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Lord <strong>of</strong> Spirits/<br />

LXIL 1. And thus the Lord commanded the kings and<br />

the mighty and the exalted, and those who dwell on the<br />

earth, and said :<br />

' Open your eyes and lift up your horns<br />

if ye are able to recognise the Elect One/ 2. And the<br />

Lord <strong>of</strong> Spirits seated him (i. e. the Messiah) on the throne<br />

<strong>of</strong> His glory and the spirit <strong>of</strong> righteousness was poured out<br />

upon him, and the word <strong>of</strong> his mouth slew all the sinners,<br />

and all the unrighteous were destroyed before his face.<br />

13. All the extent <strong>of</strong> His work. So M Itfci K^mil 7»fl4« and<br />

G, but that it omits the pron. suffix, itfc must be changed into<br />

tf-ft . Other MSS. give, 'All His power in all that He has created.'<br />

LXIL 2. <strong>The</strong> Lord <strong>of</strong> Spirits seated him (i. e. the Messiah)<br />

on the throne <strong>of</strong> His glory. This translation rests on a necessary<br />

emendation <strong>of</strong> the text suggested by Din. (DKidC instead <strong>of</strong><br />

(Didd . For the following words ' the spirit <strong>of</strong> righteousness was<br />

poured out upon him ' cannot be referred to God but only to the<br />

Messiah (cf. Isaiah xi. 4), and in verses 3 and 5 the Messiah<br />

is represented as sitting on the throne. Dln.'s text gives 'the<br />

Lord <strong>of</strong> Spirits sat on the throne,' &c. And all the unright-<br />

eous were destroyed. So G, which for H*A° reads ff/rW; and<br />

in the N.T., ' children <strong>of</strong> light,' Luke lot <strong>of</strong> the righteous is then dwelt<br />

xvi. 8. 13. Mercy : seelx. 5 (note).<br />

LXII. Here we have a lengthened<br />

upon in contrast with the fate <strong>of</strong> the<br />

account <strong>of</strong> the judgment, particularly the mighty: see xxxviii. 5. Lift<br />
