And they brought the kings and the mighty and put them<br />

into this deep valley. 3. And then mine eyes saw how<br />

they made instruments for them, iron chains <strong>of</strong> immeasurable<br />

weight. 4. And I asked the angel <strong>of</strong> peace who was with<br />

' <strong>The</strong>se chain instruments for whom are they<br />

prepared ?' 5. And he said unto me : <strong>The</strong>se are prepared<br />

for the hosts <strong>of</strong> Azazel so that they may take them and cast<br />

them into the abyss <strong>of</strong> complete condemnation, and cover<br />

their jaws with rough stones as the Lord <strong>of</strong> Spirits com-<br />

manded. 6. Michael, Gabriel, Rufael and Fanuel will take<br />

hold <strong>of</strong> them on that great day and cast them on that day<br />

into a burning furnace, that the Lord <strong>of</strong> Spirits may take<br />

vengeance on them for their unrighteousness in becoming<br />

subject to Satan and leading astray those who dwell on the<br />

earth. [7. And in those days will punishment come <strong>from</strong><br />

0"M; H&i&& and omit 'cast them/ but wrongly, as their<br />

reading <strong>of</strong> (DCD-ftf instead <strong>of</strong> Clat-llt (Din.) implies a second verb.<br />

For a like possible confusion <strong>of</strong> (I and CO see next verse (Grit.<br />

on the north-east <strong>of</strong> Jerusalem to the who execute the first judgment upon<br />
