5. Open the XY tab to set the XY parameters:<br />

When you click New, the default microplate descriptor is for a 96-well plate. The<br />

XY tab allows you to describe the wells in this carrier. The XY tab has the<br />

following options:<br />

❍ Dimensions—The length and width (X and Y dimensions) are standard and<br />

cannot be changed.<br />

❍ Layout—Allows you to specify the number of wells, as follows:<br />

✧ Number of Rows—The number of rows for this microplate.<br />

✧ Number of Columns—The number of columns for this microplate.<br />

❍ Well—Specify the size and shape of each well:<br />

✧ Specify the well shape as either Square or Circle.<br />

✧ Well Size—Specify the width of the well. For a circular well, specify the<br />

diameter.<br />

❍ First well—If you know the distance between the edge of the carrier and the<br />

A1 (top left) well, enter that distance as follows:<br />

✧ X Margin Left—The distance, in millimeters, from the left edge of the<br />

carrier to the center of the first well.<br />

✧ Y Margin Top—The distance, in millimeters, from the top edge of the<br />

carrier to the center of the first well.<br />
