Removal and Installation<br />

The tool listed is nee<strong>de</strong>d for the following procedure:<br />

MEL1426 – Gas Spring Retainer Tool<br />

Lower the operator seat bar.<br />

Install the gas spring retainer tool on the gas cylin<strong>de</strong>r<br />

(Item 1) [A].<br />

Install the end of the tool that is bent at a 90° angle in the<br />

clevis of the cylin<strong>de</strong>r as shown [B].<br />

Install the curved end of the tool on the base end of the<br />

gas cylin<strong>de</strong>r.<br />

Secure the tool to the gas cylin<strong>de</strong>r with a hose clamp<br />

(Item 2) [A].<br />

Remove the cotter pin (Item 1) [B] from the clevis pin.<br />

Remove the clevis pin (Item 1) [C] from the gas cylin<strong>de</strong>r.<br />

Use a 17/32 inch tappet wrench (Item 1) [D] to hold the<br />

ball joint on the gas cylin<strong>de</strong>r.<br />

Remove the mounting nut from the ball joint [D].<br />

Installation: Be careful not to overtighten the mounting<br />

nut on the ball joint.<br />

Remove the gas cylin<strong>de</strong>r from the seat bar.<br />

Cylin<strong>de</strong>r contains high pressure gas. Do not<br />

open. Opening cylin<strong>de</strong>r can release rod and<br />

cause injury or <strong>de</strong>ath.<br />

Replace the gas cylin<strong>de</strong>r if it malfunctions.<br />
