CRANKSHAFT GEAR<br />

Removal and Installation<br />

The tools listed will be nee<strong>de</strong>d to do the following<br />

procedure:<br />

MEL1263 – Crankshaft Gear Installer<br />

MEL1264 – Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal<br />

Use a puller to remove the gear [A].<br />

Use the correct size driver tool to install the gear [B].<br />

Clean the crankshaft and check that all the oil passages<br />

are clean and open.<br />

Clean the engine block, lubricate and install the upper<br />

halves of the main bearings.<br />

Put the crankshaft carefully in position.<br />

Install the main bearing caps and bolts. (See Page 7–63.)<br />

Check the crankshaft so that it rotates freely. Check the<br />

end play. (See Page 7–64.)<br />

Install a new rear oil seal [C]. Using the correct size driver<br />

tool.<br />

Lubricate the connecting rod bearings. Install the<br />

bearings and rod caps. (See Page 7–60.)<br />

Install the oil pump. (See Page 7–80.)<br />

Install the oil pan. (See Page 7–79.)<br />

Install the timing gears, timing gearcase cover and new<br />

front seal. (See Page 7–69.)<br />

Install the flywheel. (See Page 7–36.)<br />
