EASTERINE IRALU<br />

Easterine Iralu is a <strong>poet</strong> <strong>and</strong> short story writer from Kohima,<br />

Nagal<strong>and</strong> in North-East India. She lives in Norway <strong>and</strong> has<br />

published a novel with Zubaan India, A Terrible Matriarchy, which<br />

is now translated into Norwegian. Easterine has published the first<br />

book of <strong>poet</strong>ry in English from Nagal<strong>and</strong> as well as the fist novels.<br />

She has a PhD in Literature.<br />

a seagull glides<br />

silently over<br />

a woman in a lemon <strong>and</strong> green<br />

windswept coat<br />

snowswept both.<br />

a bird, startled<br />

fluttered out of the shrubs<br />

<strong>and</strong> flew far from me<br />

how like my heart<br />

startled by love for you<br />

fleeing from fear...<br />
