Specific Biology courses are required for every<br />

student majoring in Biology: Biology 1020/1021,<br />

1022/1023, 3005 and 4099 (12 hrs). Every Biology major<br />

must also take <strong>at</strong> least one course from each <strong>of</strong> the four<br />

Biology list electives A, B, C, and D (14 hrs, shown in the<br />

“Courses <strong>of</strong> Instruction” section. A total <strong>of</strong> 45 credit hours<br />

in Biology are required. In addition to Biology 3005 and<br />

the Biology list electives, 16 credit hours must be taken <strong>at</strong><br />

the 3000-4000 level.<br />

COMMUNICATION STUDIES<br />

The Communic<strong>at</strong>ion Studies curriculum provides an<br />

integr<strong>at</strong>ive critical view <strong>of</strong> the role <strong>of</strong> communic<strong>at</strong>ion and<br />

a critical understanding <strong>of</strong> the role <strong>of</strong> communic<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

in culture and society. A student electing a major in<br />

Communic<strong>at</strong>ion Studies will learn to speak eloquently,<br />

write effectively, interact cooper<strong>at</strong>ively, use a range <strong>of</strong><br />

listening styles, argue persuasively and think critically.<br />

The requirements for the major in Communic<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

Studies include cogn<strong>at</strong>e courses consisting <strong>of</strong> rel<strong>at</strong>ed<br />

studies in Mass Communic<strong>at</strong>ions. A student electing<br />

a major in Communic<strong>at</strong>ion Studies has the option <strong>of</strong><br />

choosing a concentr<strong>at</strong>ion in Multi-Media Performance and<br />

an academic minor.<br />

The student must earn a grade <strong>of</strong> “C” or better in<br />

each course required in the major, including the<br />

<strong>University</strong> Capstone, COMM 4000. A grade <strong>of</strong> “D” is nonprogressive;<br />

the course must be repe<strong>at</strong>ed with a minimum<br />

grade <strong>of</strong> “C” before a student can progress to the next<br />

sequential course. A course transferred from another<br />

institution must show a grade <strong>of</strong> “C” or better.<br />
