4045. PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE LABORATORY. 1 cr. Principles<br />

and techniques <strong>of</strong> dispensing extemporaneously prepared and<br />

prefabric<strong>at</strong>ed products, and relevant aspects <strong>of</strong> contemporary<br />

pharmacy practice. Prerequisites: 4032; credit or registr<strong>at</strong>ion in<br />

4054.<br />

4067. PESTICIDES. 2 cr. Chemicals and drugs which have important<br />

applic<strong>at</strong>ion as insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, and<br />

rodenticides. Prerequisite: 4013.<br />

4069. ONCOLOGY PHARMACY PRACTICE. 2 cr. Appropri<strong>at</strong>e<br />

therapy for hem<strong>at</strong>ological and oncologic disease st<strong>at</strong>es,<br />

supportive care, oncologic emergencies and critical care issues,<br />

p<strong>at</strong>hophysiology, and the pharmacologic and physiochemical<br />

properties <strong>of</strong> medic<strong>at</strong>ions. Prepar<strong>at</strong>ion, distribution and<br />

administr<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> chemotherapy will also be covered.<br />

Prerequisites: Third year pharmacy standing.<br />

4089. INTRODUCTORY TOXICOLOGY. 3 cr. Survey <strong>of</strong> the occurrence,<br />

properties and harmful effects <strong>of</strong> n<strong>at</strong>ural and man-made toxic<br />

substances in personal, occup<strong>at</strong>ional and global environments.<br />

Prerequisites: Credit or registr<strong>at</strong>ion in Biology 3011, 3013, and<br />

Chemistry 3004.<br />

4096. PHARMACEUTICAL LEGISLATION. 3 cr. Historical<br />

Development <strong>of</strong> pharmaceutical law and its effect on the practice<br />

<strong>of</strong> pharmacy. Prerequisite: 4054.<br />

5003. PATIENT ASSESSMENT FOR PHARMACISTS. 2 cr. Utiliz<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

<strong>of</strong> physical assessment findings to evalu<strong>at</strong>e drug therapy needs<br />

5015. CLINICAL PHARMACOKINETICS. 3 cr. The applic<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong><br />

pharmacokinetic principles to the safe and therapeutic<br />

management <strong>of</strong> the individual p<strong>at</strong>ient. Prerequisites: 4032.<br />

5024. CLINICAL TOXICOLOGY. 2 cr. Inform<strong>at</strong>ion on the clinical<br />

management <strong>of</strong> poisonings including the assessment <strong>of</strong> toxic<br />

potential, stabiliz<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> vital function, and specific antidotal<br />

measures. Prerequisite: Third year pharmacy standing. (Same as<br />

5074. PHARMACOTHERAPY FORUM. 3 cr. Experience in making<br />

formal oral and written present<strong>at</strong>ions to peer pr<strong>of</strong>essionals and<br />

assessment <strong>of</strong> the ability to evalu<strong>at</strong>e and apply the liter<strong>at</strong>ure.<br />

Prerequisite: Third year pharmacy standing. Credit or registr<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

in Pharmacy 5088.<br />

5087. DISEASE PATHOGENESIS AND PHARMACOTHERAPY III. 5<br />

cr. P<strong>at</strong>hogenesis, diagnosis and r<strong>at</strong>ional therapeutic approaches<br />

to tre<strong>at</strong>ment <strong>of</strong> selective disease st<strong>at</strong>es in humans. Prerequisite:<br />

4014, 4018, 5086.<br />

5088. DISEASE PATHOGENESIS AND PHARMACOTHERAPY IV. 4<br />

6034. ADVANCED COMMUNITY PHARMACY PRACTICE<br />

EXPERIENCE. 6 cr. Applic<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> knowledge skills and <strong>at</strong>titudes<br />

necessary to provide pharmaceutical care in the community<br />

pharmacy setting. Experiences include p<strong>at</strong>ient triage, disease<br />

st<strong>at</strong>e management, p<strong>at</strong>ient educ<strong>at</strong>ion, follow-up and monitoring<br />

as well as medic<strong>at</strong>ion distribution activities. Fourth year pharmacy<br />

6035. ADVANCED INSTITUTIONAL PHARMACY PRACTICE<br />

the pharmacy practice in the institutional setting. Fourth year<br />

6036. ADVANCED AMBULATORY CARE PHARMACY PRACTICE<br />

EXPERIENCE. 6 cr. Applic<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> the knowledge, skills and<br />

<strong>at</strong>titudes necessary to provide pharmaceutical care in ambul<strong>at</strong>ory<br />

care setting. Activities provide exposure to a variety <strong>of</strong> disease<br />

st<strong>at</strong>es, and experiences include p<strong>at</strong>ient triage, disease st<strong>at</strong>e<br />

management, and p<strong>at</strong>ient educ<strong>at</strong>ion, follow-up and monitoring.<br />

4013. PHARMACOLOGY III. 4 cr. Continu<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> 4012 with<br />

emphasis on the cardiovascular, renal, and respir<strong>at</strong>ory systems.<br />

Prerequisites: 4007, 4012, 4036.<br />

4014. PHARMACOLOGY IV. 4 cr. Continu<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> 4013 with emphasis<br />

on the gastrointestinal system, endocrine system, reproductive<br />

system, and chemotherapeutic agents. Prerequisites: 4013; credit<br />

or registr<strong>at</strong>ion in 4018.<br />

4019. PHARMACOBIOTECH. 3 cr. A study <strong>of</strong> the applic<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong><br />

biotechnology to pharmaceuticals including drugs, diagnostics,<br />

and vaccines. Emphasis is placed on the techniques <strong>of</strong><br />

biotechnology, recombinant proteins and peptides, monoclonal<br />

antibodies, and physiochemical properties, and metabolism <strong>of</strong><br />

genetically engineered biopharmaceuticals. Prerequisite: 4008,<br />

4009; credit or registr<strong>at</strong>ion in 4014; or approval <strong>of</strong> department<br />

head.<br />

4023. MEDICAL IMMUNOLOGY. 2 cr. Cellular and serum immunology.<br />

Antibody structure and function. Types <strong>of</strong> antigen antibody<br />

reactions. Immunosuppression, tolerance and enhancement.<br />

Systems medi<strong>at</strong>ing immunologic injury and inflamm<strong>at</strong>ion.<br />

Immunogenetics. Prerequisites: 4008, 4012, 4036.<br />

4032. PHARMACEUTICS III. 3 cr. The interrel<strong>at</strong>ionship between<br />

formul<strong>at</strong>ion factors and pharmacokinetic aspects <strong>of</strong> drug absorption,<br />

distribution, metabolism, and excretion. Prerequisite: 4003.<br />

4054. LAW. 3 cr. Local, st<strong>at</strong>e and federal laws, rules and regul<strong>at</strong>ions<br />

rel<strong>at</strong>ing to the practice <strong>of</strong> Pharmacy. Prerequisite: Second year<br />

pharmacy.<br />

5064. PHARMACOGENETICS. 3 cr. This course will provide students with<br />

basic concepts in pharmacogenetics and the role <strong>of</strong> inheritance on<br />

inter-individual vari<strong>at</strong>ion in drug response. In addition, the class will<br />

provide students with an appreci<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> how pharmacogenetic and<br />

pharmacogenomic fields impact pharmaceutical care. Prerequisites:<br />

Pharmacy 4011, 4012, and 4032.
