Introduction to the process <strong>of</strong> documenting pr<strong>of</strong>essional growth<br />

evalu<strong>at</strong>ion, and integr<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> portfolios. Must be admitted to<br />

4000. SENIOR SEMINAR. 1-3 cr. Summary course in educ<strong>at</strong>ion. Open<br />

only to students with senior standing who have been admitted to<br />

4050. MULTICULTURAL EDUCATION. 3 cr. Introduction to subcultures<br />

including political, economic, and social backgrounds<br />

and the impact on educ<strong>at</strong>ional needs and methodology. Must<br />

4056. STUDENT TEACHING IN HIGH SCHOOL. 9-12 cr. Directed<br />

observ<strong>at</strong>ion and supervised teaching in an approved secondary<br />

school. Must be admitted to Teacher Educ<strong>at</strong>ion and pass all<br />

applicable parts <strong>of</strong> PRAXIS. F, S<br />

4091. DIRECTED STUDY. 1-6 cr. Investig<strong>at</strong>ive study on selected<br />

problems by students with particular needs. By permission only.<br />

4001. ASSESSMENT PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICE FOR ALL<br />

LEARNERS. 3 cr. This course is designed to teach the principles<br />

<strong>of</strong> test and measurements for both elementary and secondary<br />

teachers; types <strong>of</strong> tests, accommod<strong>at</strong>ive assessment str<strong>at</strong>egies,<br />

the essentials <strong>of</strong> good questions, and objective and standardize<br />

tests. The course <strong>of</strong>fered in traditional and web-based (internet<br />

form<strong>at</strong>) in the spring and fall semesters and in the summer in a<br />

15-day workshop form<strong>at</strong>.<br />

4081. CONTINUING STUDIES IN CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION.<br />

1-3 cr. Various topics in curriculum and instruction. May be<br />

repe<strong>at</strong>ed. Credit may not be applied toward a degree. Grade <strong>of</strong><br />

CR (Credit) or NC (No Credit) will be awarded.<br />

4082. TECHNOLOGY FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING. 3 cr.<br />

Provides experience with planning and delivery <strong>of</strong> instruction<br />

th<strong>at</strong> integr<strong>at</strong>es a variety <strong>of</strong> s<strong>of</strong>tware, hardware, applic<strong>at</strong>ions, and<br />

learning tools. Develops technology and content rich lessons th<strong>at</strong><br />

promote improved student learning and reflect effective grouping<br />

and assessment str<strong>at</strong>egies for diverse popul<strong>at</strong>ions. Prerequisite:<br />

4005; 4024; 4027; 4092; 4093, and additional hours from<br />

electives 1027, 1029, 2009, 2012, 2014, 2026, 2028,<br />

4094, 4091 Directed Study, and Kinesiology 4032. Total <strong>of</strong><br />

21 semester hours.<br />

1012. TAP DANCE. 1 cr. The study <strong>of</strong> tap dance steps and techniques<br />

as rel<strong>at</strong>ed to the<strong>at</strong>re dance.<br />

1014. JAZZ DANCE I. 1 cr. The study <strong>of</strong> jazz techniques with emphasis<br />

on style and rhythmic design.<br />

1022. AEROBIC DANCE. 1 cr. Rhythmic activities th<strong>at</strong> improve<br />

cardiorespir<strong>at</strong>ory endurance, flexibility, body composition,<br />

muscular strength and endurance.<br />

1025. MODERN DANCE I. 1 cr. The study <strong>of</strong> modern dance techniques<br />

and principles <strong>of</strong> movement.<br />

1026. BALLET. 1 cr. Ballet technique including ballet terminology,<br />

technical principles, and theory.<br />

1027. SOCIAL DANCE. 1 cr. The instruction and practice <strong>of</strong> traditional<br />

and contemporary ballroom dancing.<br />

1028. THEATER DANCE. 1 cr. Basic introduction to dance forms found<br />

on the musical, oper<strong>at</strong>ic, and the<strong>at</strong>rical stage, to include ballet,<br />

jazz, and tap. Students will develop a dance vocabulary and<br />

learn classic steps and combin<strong>at</strong>ions. Emphasis will also be<br />

placed on stage awareness and presence.<br />

1029. FOLK DANCE. 1 cr. The instruction and practice <strong>of</strong> American<br />

and Intern<strong>at</strong>ional folk dances.<br />

2009. MODERN DANCE II. 1 cr. Advanced technique, movement<br />

combin<strong>at</strong>ions, choreography, and theory <strong>of</strong> modern dance.<br />

2012. TAP II. 1 cr. Maximum 4 cr. hrs. to be earned. A continu<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

<strong>of</strong> the study <strong>of</strong> tap dancing designed for the intermedi<strong>at</strong>e/<br />

advanced dancer. Students will build on an already existing<br />

tap vocabulary and skill level. Prerequisites: Dance 1012 or<br />

permission <strong>of</strong> the instructor.<br />

2014. JAZZ DANCE II. 1 cr. Advanced technique, movement<br />

combin<strong>at</strong>ions, choreography, and theory <strong>of</strong> jazz dance.<br />

2026. BALLET II. 1 cr. Maximum 4 credit hours. A continu<strong>at</strong>ion into<br />

the discipline and execution <strong>of</strong> ballet. Building on the basics <strong>of</strong><br />

ballet, the student will move toward more advanced techniques.<br />

Emphasis will be on perfecting technical skills along with<br />

expanding the knowledge <strong>of</strong> ballet history and ballet terminology.<br />

This class is designed for the intermedi<strong>at</strong>e/advanced student.<br />

Prerequisites: DANC 1026 or permission <strong>of</strong> instructor.<br />

2028. THEATER DANCE II. 1 cr. A continu<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> the study <strong>of</strong> the<strong>at</strong>re<br />

dance designed for the intermedi<strong>at</strong>e/advanced dancer. Styles<br />

include but are not limited to ballet, modern, jazz, tap, and<br />

ballroom. Prerequisites: Dance 1028 or permission <strong>of</strong> the instructor.<br />

3001. THEORY AND APPLICATION OF DANCE. 3 cr. A study <strong>of</strong><br />

various forms <strong>of</strong> dance, including recre<strong>at</strong>ional and concert<br />

dance, with emphasis on dance enjoyment, appreci<strong>at</strong>ion, skills,<br />

techniques, history and theory.<br />

4027. DANCE PEDAGOGY I. 3 cr. Designed to give the dance student<br />

an introduction to teaching dance. Students will learn theory,<br />

planning, applic<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> teaching. Students will be expected to<br />

teach classes <strong>of</strong> various techniques and levels as part <strong>of</strong> the<br />

learning process. Prerequisites: Dance 4005, Dance 4024, or<br />

Dance 4093 or permission <strong>of</strong> instructor.<br />

4005. ADMINISTRATION OF DANCE. 3 cr. The organiz<strong>at</strong>ion and<br />

administr<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> dance productions, dance festivals, and other<br />

dance performances.<br />

4024. DANCE WORKSHOP. 1-3 cr. A study <strong>of</strong> the art <strong>of</strong> dance,<br />

including history, terminology, techniques, composition, and<br />

elements <strong>of</strong> movement. Prerequisite: appropri<strong>at</strong>e dance<br />

background.<br />

4092. HISTORY AND PHILOSOPHY OF DANCE. 1-3 cr. 6 cr.<br />

maximum. Directed study and/or research in selected areas<br />

<strong>of</strong> dance. Prerequisite: approval <strong>of</strong> department head. F, Sp, Su<br />
