OBJECTIVES<br />
The College <strong>of</strong> Educ<strong>at</strong>ion and Human Development,<br />
in harmony with the objectives <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>Louisiana</strong> <strong>at</strong> <strong>Monroe</strong>, is dedic<strong>at</strong>ed to preparing learning<br />
facilit<strong>at</strong>ors, utilizing the ULM Interactive Learning Model<br />
wherein general educ<strong>at</strong>ion, pr<strong>of</strong>essional studies, and<br />
specialty studies interact str<strong>at</strong>egically with clinical and field<br />
experiences. Toward th<strong>at</strong> end, these objectives have been<br />
adopted:<br />
1. To prepare, <strong>at</strong> the undergradu<strong>at</strong>e level,<br />
prospective teacher candid<strong>at</strong>es who will be<br />
liberally educ<strong>at</strong>ed, knowledgeable in specialized<br />
teaching fields, competent in pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />
understandings and methods, pr<strong>of</strong>icient in<br />
assessing and improving student learning, and<br />
responsible to the moral and aesthetic oblig<strong>at</strong>ions<br />
inherent to the school and multi- cultural<br />
community.<br />
2. To prepare, <strong>at</strong> the gradu<strong>at</strong>e level, teachers and<br />
other school personnel whose competence in<br />
improving student learning shall be assured<br />
by maintenance <strong>of</strong> a proper balance between<br />
advanced subject m<strong>at</strong>ter and pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />
courses, and appropri<strong>at</strong>e experiences.<br />
3. To provide undergradu<strong>at</strong>e and gradu<strong>at</strong>e psychology<br />
students with background and skills essential<br />
for further pr<strong>of</strong>essional study and to <strong>of</strong>fer<br />
psychology courses basic to other curricula <strong>of</strong> the<br />
<strong>University</strong>.<br />
The College <strong>of</strong> Educ<strong>at</strong>ion and Human Development<br />
<strong>of</strong>fers a broad course <strong>of</strong> study in the Departments <strong>of</strong><br />
Educ<strong>at</strong>ional Leadership and Counseling, Curriculum and<br />
Instruction, Kinesiology, and Psychology.<br />
The College <strong>of</strong>fers the Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Arts in Psychology;<br />
the Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Science in Elementary Educ<strong>at</strong>ion (with<br />
Early Childhood add-on available); Elementary Educ<strong>at</strong>ion<br />
Inclusive; Secondary Educ<strong>at</strong>ion and Teaching in<br />
Biology Educ<strong>at</strong>ion, Chemistry Educ<strong>at</strong>ion, Earth Science<br />
Educ<strong>at</strong>ion, English Educ<strong>at</strong>ion, French Educ<strong>at</strong>ion, Social<br />
Studies Educ<strong>at</strong>ion, and Spanish Educ<strong>at</strong>ion; Secondary<br />
Educ<strong>at</strong>ion and Teaching Inclusive in Biology Educ<strong>at</strong>ion,<br />
Chemistry Educ<strong>at</strong>ion, English Educ<strong>at</strong>ion, M<strong>at</strong>h Educ<strong>at</strong>ion,<br />

The Gradu<strong>at</strong>e School <strong>of</strong>fers the Master <strong>of</strong> Arts Degree<br />
in Marriage and Family Therapy and Substance Abuse<br />
Counseling, the Master <strong>of</strong> Arts in Teaching Degree<br />
in Elementary Educ<strong>at</strong>ion (1-5), Secondary Educ<strong>at</strong>ion<br />
