3001. STRESS AND THE IMPAIRED PROFESSIONAL. 1 cr. A<br />

discussion <strong>of</strong> factors associ<strong>at</strong>ed with inappropri<strong>at</strong>e responses<br />

to stress leading to impairment <strong>of</strong> health pr<strong>of</strong>essionals such as<br />

alcoholism, drug dependence, and occup<strong>at</strong>ional burnout with<br />

emphasis on prevent<strong>at</strong>ive str<strong>at</strong>egies.<br />

3002. MEDICAL ETHICS. 2 cr. The class will address ethical dilemmas<br />

the health pr<strong>of</strong>essionals face in their pr<strong>of</strong>essional careers. The<br />

students will gain keener insight into the problems associ<strong>at</strong>ed<br />

with health care delivery systems and will be prepared to face the<br />

ethical problem th<strong>at</strong> will surface with the adoption <strong>of</strong> reform. Open<br />

to majors in the Health Sciences only.<br />

3010. HISTORY OF PHARMACY. 2 cr. An examin<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> the historical<br />

basis <strong>of</strong> contemporary pharmacy practice.<br />

4004. PUBLIC HEALTH SCIENCE. 2 cr. Development, scope, and<br />

methods employed in public health. Principles <strong>of</strong> biost<strong>at</strong>istics,<br />

epidemiology, environmental sanit<strong>at</strong>ion and the study <strong>of</strong> major<br />

health problems are included.<br />

4006. COMMUNITY HEALTH EDUCATION. 2 cr. Development <strong>of</strong><br />

technologies th<strong>at</strong> facilit<strong>at</strong>e changes in health rel<strong>at</strong>ed behavior<br />

th<strong>at</strong> affect individuals, organiz<strong>at</strong>ions, and social or community<br />

systems.<br />

4053. HEALTH CARE SYSTEMS. 2 cr. The organiz<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> health<br />

care services in the United St<strong>at</strong>es, with emphasis on historical<br />

development, present characteristics, and future trends.
