4026. WIND ENSEMBLE. 0-1 cr. per semester. Prerequisite:<br />

approval <strong>of</strong> the head <strong>of</strong> the Division <strong>of</strong> Music. Meets ensemble<br />

requirements for majors in brass, wind and percussion majors<br />

in the spring semester. May be repe<strong>at</strong>ed. Music and Music<br />

Educ<strong>at</strong>ion majors must take for zero credit.<br />

4027. SYMPHONIC BAND. 0-1 cr. per semester. Prerequisite:<br />

approval <strong>of</strong> the director. Meets ensemble requirements for majors<br />

in brass, wind and percussion majors the spring semester. May<br />

be repe<strong>at</strong>ed. Music and Music Educ<strong>at</strong>ion majors must take for<br />

4029. CONCERT CHOIR. 0-1 cr. per semester. Prerequisite: approval<br />

<strong>of</strong> the director. Meets ensemble requirements for students whose<br />

major applied area is voice. May be repe<strong>at</strong>ed. Music and Music<br />

Educ<strong>at</strong>ion majors must take for zero credit.<br />

4033. MADRIGALIANS. 0-1 cr. per semester. An auditioned choi<br />

drawn from the membership <strong>of</strong> Concert Choir th<strong>at</strong> performs<br />

a wide range <strong>of</strong> repertoire and tours for ULM. Prerequisite:<br />

approval <strong>of</strong> the director. May be repe<strong>at</strong>ed. Music and Music<br />

Educ<strong>at</strong>ion majors must take for zero credit.<br />

4034. CHAMBER MUSIC. 0-1 cr. per semester. The study and<br />

performance <strong>of</strong> chamber music for various combin<strong>at</strong>ions <strong>of</strong><br />

instruments. Prerequisite: approval <strong>of</strong> the director. May be<br />

repe<strong>at</strong>ed. Music majors must enroll for zero credit, except for<br />

students pursuing a concentr<strong>at</strong>ion in Instrumental Performance,<br />

who are required to apply four credits <strong>of</strong> MUSC 4034 to their<br />

degree.<br />

4035. PIANO ACCOMPANYING. 0-1 cr. per semester. Applied studio<br />

accompanying in the vocal and instrumental applied areas.<br />

Prerequisite: approval <strong>of</strong> the instructor. May be repe<strong>at</strong>ed. Music<br />

and Music Educ<strong>at</strong>ion majors must take for zero credit.<br />

4037. PIANO PEDAGOGY III. 3 cr. A survey <strong>of</strong> music for the piano<br />

from the Baroque and Classical periods suitable for students <strong>at</strong><br />

the intermedi<strong>at</strong>e level.<br />

4038. PIANO PEDAGOGY IV. 3 cr. A survey <strong>of</strong> music for the piano<br />

from the Romantic and Contemporary periods suitable for<br />

students <strong>at</strong> the intermedi<strong>at</strong>e level.<br />

4061. KEYBOARD HARMONY AND CREATIVE MUSICIANSHIP<br />

FOR THE PIANO TEACHER. 1 cr., 2 cr. maximum. A functional<br />

approach to keyboard skills for piano instructors. A combin<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

<strong>of</strong> lab and lecture to include harmoniz<strong>at</strong>ion, chord voicing,<br />

transposition, modul<strong>at</strong>ion, improvis<strong>at</strong>ion, sight reading, and score<br />

reading. Development <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>iciency in these skills, as well as an<br />

understanding <strong>of</strong> how they can be taught <strong>at</strong> different levels.<br />

4064. THE BAROQUE ERA. 3 cr. Upper level course designed for<br />

gradu<strong>at</strong>e students and advanced undergradu<strong>at</strong>es. Topics<br />

include discussion <strong>of</strong> major composers, styles, and genres<br />

from the l<strong>at</strong>e 16th century until the middle <strong>of</strong> the 18th century.<br />

Composers and their works are situ<strong>at</strong>ed within a larger cultural<br />

and historical context. Emphasis is placed on aural identific<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

and written analysis <strong>of</strong> represent<strong>at</strong>ive works. A research paper<br />

and accompanying assignments form a significant portion <strong>of</strong> the<br />

course grade. Students will be introduced to electronic resources<br />

for music research. Prerequisite: MUSC 4092 or approval <strong>of</strong> the<br />

head <strong>of</strong> Division <strong>of</strong> Music. F, odd<br />

4065. PIANO HISTORY AND LITERATURE. 3 cr. A survey <strong>of</strong> pianos<br />

and their predecessors, and piano liter<strong>at</strong>ure from the early<br />

English school to the present. Prerequisite: MUSC 1093.<br />

4067. SURVEY OF THE MUSIC INDUSTRY. 3 cr. An overview <strong>of</strong> the<br />

music industry, including careers, publishing, recording, and<br />

merchandising.<br />

4068. SURVEY OF ENSEMBLE MUSIC FOR THE PIANO. 2 cr.<br />

Survey <strong>of</strong> piano concert and ensemble music written for one<br />

or more pianos. Music for elementary and intermedi<strong>at</strong>e level<br />

students will be emphasized.<br />

4069. BAND REPERTOIRE. 3 cr. Introduction to band composers and<br />

their liter<strong>at</strong>ure. A chronological approach to the available band<br />

liter<strong>at</strong>ure and its composers.<br />

4070. BAND HISTORY AND LITERATURE. 3 cr. History <strong>of</strong> bands,<br />

original compositions and transcriptions for band. Prerequisite:<br />

MUSC 1093.<br />

4072. COMPOSITION. 3 cr. Maximum, 6 cr. Compositions in one<br />

or more movements for various solo instruments, vocal and<br />

instrumental ensembles and full orchestra. Students enrolled<br />

will serve as supervised tutors for 1070, 1071, and 1072.<br />

Prerequisite: MUSC 4071.
