2001. DESCRIPTIVE ASTRONOMY. 3 cr. The astronomical universe<br />

from a non-m<strong>at</strong>hem<strong>at</strong>ical viewpoint. Prerequisite: credit or<br />

2002. DESCRIPTIVE ASTRONOMY LABORATORY. 1 cr. A labor<strong>at</strong>ory<br />

course to accompany 2001. Two hours <strong>of</strong> labor<strong>at</strong>ory. Prerequisite:<br />

credit or registr<strong>at</strong>ion in PHYS 2001.<br />

2003. GENERAL PHYSICS I. 3 cr. This is a trigonometry-based<br />

physics class involving the principles and laws <strong>of</strong> kinem<strong>at</strong>ics,<br />

forces, energy, momentum, linear and rot<strong>at</strong>ion motion, and<br />

st<strong>at</strong>ics. Selected topics may include fluids, vibr<strong>at</strong>ions, sound,<br />

kinetic theory, and he<strong>at</strong>. Prerequisite: MATH 1012 or 1013.<br />

2004. GENERAL PHYSICS II. 3 cr. This is a trigonometry-based<br />

physics class involving the principles and laws <strong>of</strong> electricity,<br />

electricity, magnetism, and light to accompany PHYS 2004 or<br />

2020. HISTORY OF SCIENCE. 3 cr. An introduction to the major<br />

influences <strong>of</strong> scientific thought and discovery on the course <strong>of</strong><br />

history. Prerequisites: 3 cr. in introductory science.<br />

2022. MAJORS’ INTRODUCTION TO THE PHYSICS LABORATORY.<br />

1 cr. How to use basic scientific instruments, such as the<br />

oscilloscope, and department facilities such as the VAX system<br />

3003. PHYSICAL THEORY. 3 cr. Applic<strong>at</strong>ions <strong>of</strong> calculus in physics<br />

including vectors, Newtonian mechanics, the work-energy<br />

principle, the kinetic theory <strong>of</strong> gases, RCL circuits, Gauss and<br />

Ampere laws, integral Maxwell equ<strong>at</strong>ions, and introduction to<br />

modern physics. Prerequisites: PHYS 2004 or 2008; MATH<br />

3004. BIOMECHANICS. 3 cr. Principles <strong>of</strong> mechanics applied to the<br />

musculoskeletal an<strong>at</strong>omy including Applied St<strong>at</strong>ics, Dynamics,<br />

Mechanics. Prerequisites: PHYS 2003 and PHYS 2009<br />

3010. DIGITAL ELECTRONICS. 3 cr. Digital electronics including<br />

g<strong>at</strong>es, Boolean algebra, combin<strong>at</strong>ional logic, binary number<br />

oper<strong>at</strong>ions, flip-flops, l<strong>at</strong>ches, and counters. Prerequisite: PHYS<br />

2004 or 2008.<br />

3014. DIGITAL ELECTRONICS LABORATORY. 1 cr. Digital integr<strong>at</strong>ed<br />

circuits including logic g<strong>at</strong>es, l<strong>at</strong>ches, flip flops, decoders,<br />

encoders, analog-to-digital conversions, shift registers, counters,<br />

multiplexers, ROM’s, RAM’s. Three hours <strong>of</strong> labor<strong>at</strong>ory.<br />

3015. MECHANICS. 3 cr. Applic<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> the fundamental laws <strong>of</strong><br />

mechanics to particles and rigid bodies. Prerequisites: PHYS<br />

3017. ELECTRICITY AND MAGNETISM. 3 cr. The theory <strong>of</strong> electricity<br />

4024. ANALOG ELECTRONICS. 3 cr. Discrete electronic components<br />

and circuits using them including resistors, capacitors, diodes,<br />

4026. ANALOG ELECTRONICS LABORATORY. 1 cr. Basic<br />

measurement techniques, filters, power supplies, diodes,<br />

transistors, and oper<strong>at</strong>ional amplifiers. Three hours <strong>of</strong> labor<strong>at</strong>ory.<br />

4033. QUANTUM MECHANICS. 3 cr. The development <strong>of</strong><br />

introductory quantum theory from a phenomenological point<br />
