Master <strong>of</strong> Educ<strong>at</strong>ion Degree in Counseling, Curriculum<br />
and Instruction, Educ<strong>at</strong>ional Leadership, Educ<strong>at</strong>ional<br />
Technology Leadership, and Special Educ<strong>at</strong>ion; and the<br />
Master <strong>of</strong> Science Degree in Psychology and Exercise<br />
Science.<br />
Curriculum and Instruction also <strong>of</strong>fers a 60 credit<br />
hour educ<strong>at</strong>ional doctor<strong>at</strong>e online. This degree facilit<strong>at</strong>es<br />
additional career opportunities for teachers and<br />
administr<strong>at</strong>ors in the educ<strong>at</strong>ional setting.<br />
The Doctor <strong>of</strong> Philosophy degree in Marriage and<br />
Family Therapy from the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Louisiana</strong> <strong>at</strong><br />
<strong>Monroe</strong> prepares gradu<strong>at</strong>es for careers as scholars/<br />
teachers, researchers, supervisors, and senior clinicians.<br />
The Marriage and Family Therapy doctor<strong>at</strong>e is a 63 credit<br />
hour (minimum), post-masters degree which integr<strong>at</strong>es<br />
systemically oriented philosophy and theory, clinical<br />
practice, qualit<strong>at</strong>ive research and quantit<strong>at</strong>ive research.<br />
The Doctor <strong>of</strong> Educ<strong>at</strong>ion degree in Curriculum<br />
and Instruction or Educ<strong>at</strong>ional Leadership is <strong>of</strong>fered<br />
through the cooper<strong>at</strong>ive efforts <strong>of</strong> Grambling St<strong>at</strong>e<br />
<strong>University</strong>, <strong>Louisiana</strong> Tech <strong>University</strong>, and the <strong>University</strong><br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>Louisiana</strong> <strong>at</strong> <strong>Monroe</strong> and coordin<strong>at</strong>ed through the<br />
<strong>Louisiana</strong> Educ<strong>at</strong>ion Consortium Governing Board. All<br />
consortium institutions will <strong>of</strong>fer found<strong>at</strong>ion courses and<br />
other gradu<strong>at</strong>e courses required in the Ed.D. Program<br />
in Curriculum and Instruction or Educ<strong>at</strong>ional Leadership<br />
based upon faculty expertise and other institutional<br />
resources. The Doctor <strong>of</strong> Educ<strong>at</strong>ion degree in Curriculum<br />
and Instruction and in Educ<strong>at</strong>ional Leadership will be<br />
awarded by the institution to which the student has<br />
been admitted for doctoral study with coursework being<br />
completed on all three campuses in order to provide<br />
diverse academic experiences. A unique strength <strong>of</strong><br />
the <strong>Louisiana</strong> Educ<strong>at</strong>ion Consortium is th<strong>at</strong> the three<br />
institutions will str<strong>at</strong>egically pool faculty, equipment and<br />
technology.<br />
The Doctor <strong>of</strong> Educ<strong>at</strong>ion programs are designed<br />
for K-12 personnel, including teachers and ad min istra<br />
tors. The primary goal <strong>of</strong> the doctoral programs is<br />
the prepar<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> practitioner-scholars for roles in<br />
elementary, middle, and secondary school settings.<br />
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS<br />
I. Admission With Distinction<br />
Students granted honors admission into the <strong>University</strong><br />
will be granted immedi<strong>at</strong>e entry into their chosen<br />
degree programs.<br />
II. Provisional and Regular Admission<br />
Students in these c<strong>at</strong>egories must meet the following<br />
requirements before being granted entry into their<br />
chosen degree programs:<br />
1. S<strong>at</strong>isfactory completion <strong>of</strong> any required<br />
developmental courses;<br />
2. Successful completion <strong>of</strong> English 1001 and 1002<br />
or their equivalents with minimum grades <strong>of</strong> “C”,<br />
or passage <strong>of</strong> a comprehensive English usage<br />
test; and<br />
3. S<strong>at</strong>isfactory completion <strong>of</strong> all special admission<br />
requirements <strong>of</strong> the intended major field <strong>of</strong> study.<br />
Students in provisional and regular admission<br />
st<strong>at</strong>us may not enroll in courses numbered 3000 or<br />
above until they have completed developmental and<br />
freshman requirements.<br />
All transfer students must meet the above<br />
requirements for formal admission to degree st<strong>at</strong>us.<br />
Students must be admitted <strong>at</strong> least one semester (or<br />
summer term) prior to the semester in which they intend<br />
to receive their degree.<br />
CORE CURRICULUM<br />
Minimum required for all baccalaure<strong>at</strong>e programs in<br />
the College <strong>of</strong> Educ<strong>at</strong>ion and Human Development include<br />
the following core <strong>of</strong> general educ<strong>at</strong>ion requirements:<br />
English - 6-12 hours; M<strong>at</strong>hem<strong>at</strong>ics - 6 hours; Science -<br />
12 hours; Social Science - 6-12 hours; Arts Elective - 3<br />
hours; Computer Literacy - 3 hours. Teacher Educ<strong>at</strong>ion<br />
candid<strong>at</strong>es must complete general educ<strong>at</strong>ion requirements<br />
with minimum grades <strong>of</strong> “C” in all coursework.<br />
INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY<br />
REQUIREMENT<br />
Successful completion <strong>of</strong> Curriculum and Instruction<br />
2085, 3 hours, with a grade <strong>of</strong> “C” or better, is required<br />
in all degree programs in the College <strong>of</strong> Educ<strong>at</strong>ion<br />
and Human Development. This course meets general<br />
educ<strong>at</strong>ion requirements and requirements for the Board <strong>of</strong><br />
Regents Certific<strong>at</strong>e <strong>of</strong> Excellence.<br />
COUNCIL FOR TEACHER EDUCATION<br />
The development and maintenance <strong>of</strong> teacher<br />
educ<strong>at</strong>ion programs are important functions <strong>of</strong><br />
the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Louisiana</strong> <strong>at</strong> <strong>Monroe</strong>. The major<br />
responsibility in oper<strong>at</strong>ing adequ<strong>at</strong>e programs is the<br />
particular interest <strong>of</strong> the College <strong>of</strong> Educ<strong>at</strong>ion and Human<br />
Development; however, other schools have special<br />
interests and responsibilities in the effective execution <strong>of</strong><br />
the best possible teacher educ<strong>at</strong>ion programs.<br />
PURPOSES OF THE COUNCIL. The general<br />
purposes <strong>of</strong> the Council for Teacher Educ<strong>at</strong>ion are:<br />
1. To formul<strong>at</strong>e and recommend policies rel<strong>at</strong>ing to<br />
criteria considered essential to an outstanding<br />
teacher educ<strong>at</strong>ion program.<br />
2. To develop and recommend policies rel<strong>at</strong>ive to<br />
implement<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> (a) selective recruitment, (b)<br />
selective admission and retention, (c) advisement,<br />
(d) curricula, and (e) labor<strong>at</strong>ory experiences.<br />
3. To study, encourage and facilit<strong>at</strong>e co-oper<strong>at</strong>ive<br />
development <strong>of</strong> programs for teacher prepar<strong>at</strong>ion.<br />
4. To review teacher educ<strong>at</strong>ion programs presented<br />
to the St<strong>at</strong>e Department <strong>of</strong> Educ<strong>at</strong>ion and<br />
accrediting agencies.<br />
5. To initi<strong>at</strong>e research and promote studies designed<br />
to improve teacher educ<strong>at</strong>ion.
