The Global Studies Concentr<strong>at</strong>ion serves the needs <strong>of</strong><br />

students wishing to combine a traditional major in French<br />

or Spanish with a background in business, public policy<br />

and/or public rel<strong>at</strong>ions. In addition to completing required<br />

courses in Economics, Marketing, and Accounting,<br />

students choose 21 hours <strong>of</strong> electives from a list<br />

<strong>of</strong> courses selected for their intern<strong>at</strong>ional content and<br />

taken from a variety <strong>of</strong> fields (Management, Finance,<br />

Modern Languages, Political Science, Sociology, Mass<br />

Communic<strong>at</strong>ions). This interdisciplinary program, coupled<br />

with a foreign language major, <strong>of</strong>fers prepar<strong>at</strong>ion for<br />

careers in intern<strong>at</strong>ional business, government or military<br />

service, and media rel<strong>at</strong>ed areas.<br />

GENERAL STUDIES<br />

General Studies, which is administered by the dean<br />

<strong>of</strong> the College <strong>of</strong> Arts and Sciences, includes a two-year<br />

program <strong>of</strong> study leading to an associ<strong>at</strong>e degree and a<br />

four-year program <strong>of</strong> study leading to a bachelor degree.<br />

Coursework is available in a broad spectrum <strong>of</strong> academic<br />

disciplines, allowing programs to be developed according<br />

to individual needs and interests.<br />

Students interested in General Studies include<br />

persons who wish to:<br />

1. Pursue a non-traditional degree program for<br />

personal enrichment and s<strong>at</strong>isfaction.<br />

2. Help design their own course <strong>of</strong> study.<br />

3. Change college majors l<strong>at</strong>e in their academic<br />

careers.<br />

4. Return to college as m<strong>at</strong>ure students with new<br />

career interests.<br />

5. Attend college irregularly or <strong>at</strong> night or online.<br />

GENERAL STUDIES DEGREE REQUIREMENTS<br />

Upon completion <strong>of</strong> the appropri<strong>at</strong>e requirements<br />

and upon the recommend<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> the dean <strong>of</strong> the College<br />

<strong>of</strong> Arts and Sciences, a student will be awarded the<br />

Associ<strong>at</strong>e <strong>of</strong> General Studies or the Bachelor <strong>of</strong> General<br />

Studies degree.
