support all campus network resources - email, Moodle,<br />

registr<strong>at</strong>ion, myULM, labs, etc. The campus network is<br />

extended to about 60 buildings <strong>of</strong> which 48 are connected<br />

via fiber. This network extends IP based Internet and<br />

research networks to departmental networks as well<br />

as stand alone personal computers. Services include:<br />

network support (wired and wireless throughout campus),<br />

training and orient<strong>at</strong>ion, configur<strong>at</strong>ion design and<br />

hardware specific<strong>at</strong>ions, site license s<strong>of</strong>tware distribution,<br />

test grading, assistance with instructional media, and web<br />

and d<strong>at</strong>abase development. Computing resources have<br />

also been provisioned over the past few years for a more<br />

secure campus which includes electronic access controls<br />

HONORS PROGRAM<br />

The <strong>University</strong> Honors Program provides a unique<br />

learning opportunity for students with exceptional<br />

academic abilities. Non-traditional classes, special<br />

sections <strong>of</strong> traditional classes, and opportunities for<br />

increased interaction with faculty members and other<br />

students <strong>of</strong> similar abilities provide an individualized<br />

<strong>at</strong>mosphere for learning th<strong>at</strong> is both stimul<strong>at</strong>ing and<br />

personal. Students who are accepted into the Honors<br />

Program will receive a well-rounded educ<strong>at</strong>ion in<br />

combin<strong>at</strong>ion with their major.<br />

The Program is open to students in all majors. The<br />

student will take 22 hours <strong>of</strong> the Honors Core th<strong>at</strong> fulfills<br />

the <strong>University</strong> Core. In order to complete the Honors Core,<br />

Honors students must take English 1010, Arts 1010, six<br />

(6) hours <strong>of</strong> Honors Social Sciences, Honors <strong>University</strong><br />

Seminar, with prior Honors Council approval one (1)<br />

m<strong>at</strong>hem<strong>at</strong>ics course th<strong>at</strong> fulfills the <strong>University</strong> Core using<br />

the Honors Option, and <strong>at</strong> least two (2) <strong>of</strong> the following<br />

courses, one from each discipline, English 2007, English<br />

2019, History 1010, History 2009 and History 2019.<br />

Upon completion <strong>of</strong> the Honors Core, the student will<br />

have three choices:<br />

• Honors in the Major<br />

• Honors in the College<br />

• Honors in the <strong>University</strong><br />

To complete Honors in the Major the student must<br />

take nine to twelve (9-12) <strong>of</strong> Honors hours in the major*,<br />

six (6) hours <strong>of</strong> the same Foreign Language (12 hours for<br />

students in the College <strong>of</strong> Arts and Sciences), and one (1)<br />

<strong>of</strong> Honors Colloquium. To complete Honors in the College<br />

the student must take nine to twelve (9-12) <strong>of</strong> Honors<br />

hours in the major*, six (6) hours <strong>of</strong> the same Foreign<br />

Language (12 hours for student in the College <strong>of</strong> Arts and<br />

Sciences), two (2) hours <strong>of</strong> Honors Colloquium, three (3)<br />

hours <strong>of</strong> Honors Speech and three (3) hours <strong>of</strong> Honors<br />

Seminar outside the major.<br />

To complete Honors in the <strong>University</strong> the student must<br />

take nine to twelve (9-12) <strong>of</strong> Honors hours in the major*,<br />

twelve (12) hours <strong>of</strong> the same Foreign Language, two (2)<br />

<strong>of</strong> Honors Colloquium, three (3) <strong>of</strong> Honors Speech, three<br />

(3) <strong>of</strong> Honors Seminar and a completion <strong>of</strong> the Honors<br />

Project to be completed during the junior and senior year.<br />

* All Honors hours in the major must be completed<br />

using the Honors Option and approved by the<br />

Honors Council.<br />

Successful completion <strong>of</strong> all requirements and a<br />

cumul<strong>at</strong>ive grade point average <strong>of</strong> <strong>at</strong> least 3.5 by the time<br />

<strong>of</strong> gradu<strong>at</strong>ion (3.3 by freshman year, 3.4 by sophomore<br />

year and 3.5 by junior year) will qualify the student<br />

to obtain a certific<strong>at</strong>e and gradu<strong>at</strong>e from the Honors<br />

Program.<br />

The Program is administered by the <strong>University</strong><br />

Honors Council which includes the President <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Student Honors Board.<br />

LOUISIANA DRUG AND POISON<br />

INFORMATION CENTER<br />

The <strong>Louisiana</strong> Drug and Poison Inform<strong>at</strong>ion Center<br />

was established <strong>at</strong> The <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Louisiana</strong> <strong>at</strong> <strong>Monroe</strong><br />

by an act <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Louisiana</strong> Legisl<strong>at</strong>ure in 1991. The Center<br />

is currently a collabor<strong>at</strong>ive project between the ULM<br />

College <strong>of</strong> Pharmacy and the LSU Health Sciences<br />

Center in Shreveport. This 24-hours-per-day st<strong>at</strong>e-wide<br />

Center is <strong>Louisiana</strong>’s only publicly supported Poison<br />

Inform<strong>at</strong>ion Center and provides a vital emergency<br />

resource in the acute management <strong>of</strong> poison ing and other<br />

toxic exposures throughout the St<strong>at</strong>e.<br />

LOUISIANA INSTITUTE OF TOXICOLOGY<br />

The <strong>Louisiana</strong> Institute <strong>of</strong> Toxicology conducts<br />

in ter dis ci pli nary research on fundamental issues<br />

involving toxic chemicals, environmental pollution,<br />

and public health. The Institute provides a focus for<br />

scholarly activities directed towards the development <strong>of</strong><br />

new technologies and procedures for toxic substance<br />

control and management and serves as a resource<br />

for consult<strong>at</strong>ion in service to the St<strong>at</strong>e <strong>of</strong> <strong>Louisiana</strong> in<br />

toxicological and environmental m<strong>at</strong>ters which may affect<br />

public health.<br />

STUDENT SUCCESS CENTER<br />

Mission St<strong>at</strong>ement<br />

In accord with the mission <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong><br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>Louisiana</strong> <strong>at</strong> <strong>Monroe</strong>, the Student Success Center<br />

strives to increase the quality <strong>of</strong> educ<strong>at</strong>ion and services<br />

<strong>of</strong>fered to our students. The SSC encourages and assists<br />

students in the explor<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> their interests, the pursuit<br />

<strong>of</strong> their goals, and the development <strong>of</strong> their intellectual<br />

knowledge and skills as they strive to reach their full<br />

potential. The goals <strong>of</strong> the SSC are achieved through the<br />

delivery <strong>of</strong>:<br />

Purpose<br />

The Student Success Center <strong>of</strong>fice, loc<strong>at</strong>ed in the<br />

Clarke M. Williams Student Success Center, is staffed by<br />

academic advisors who work with undeclared students,<br />

pre-pharmacy majors, health science majors, general<br />

studies majors, and other identified students to provide<br />

individualized academic advising and career planning.
