a larger cultural and historical context. Emphasis is placed<br />
on aural identific<strong>at</strong>ion and written analysis <strong>of</strong> represent<strong>at</strong>ive<br />
works. A research paper and accompanying assignments<br />
form a significant portion <strong>of</strong> the course grade. Students will<br />
be introduced to electronic resources for music research.<br />

concepts and teaching techniques in marching band will be<br />
discussed. Also, rel<strong>at</strong>ed areas such as administr<strong>at</strong>ion, arranging,<br />
new music, charting, auxiliary units, and marching percussion will<br />
be covered. Films and video tapes will be used extensively.<br />
